BISD Enrollment Down

The Beaumont Independent School District released its preliminary enrollment report showing a 500 student drop from last year. Meanwhile, nearby private, charter and public schools reported increases across the board.

Hamshire-Fannett’s assistant superintendent said the district’s enrollment is at 1,803, up 58 students from last year.

Since HFISD implemented its transfer policy in December, the district has accepted 36 applications.

Hardin-Jefferson’s enrollment came in at 2,193 for the start of the school year, a surge of 153 students. However, administrators would not release how many of those students were transfers.

The enrollment increase was not only true for public schools, charter school Vista Academy of Beaumont is at full capacity and has a waiting list for every grade level.

Another charter school, Tekoa Academy in Port Arthur is up 62 students from last year, with at least 5 of them from Beaumont.

Even more growth at private schools, St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica School is up 10% compared to last year’s enrollment and has a waiting list in Pre-K 4, Kindergarten, 6th and 8th grades, with 30% of those new students from Beaumont.
