In this weeks, and the first “Take 5” Interview we caught up with incoming Lamar freshman football recruit Rodney Randle. Rodney is a 2015 graduate of Beaumont Ozen high school where he starred as a running back/defensive back for the Panthers. He’s looking to quickly step right in at Lamar and provide a positive impact for Coach Woodard and the Cardinal football program and was kind enough to give us here at bigredinsider.com a quick interview.
BRI: You’ve been projected to play defense at this level, so are you expecting to line up at cornerback or safety for Lamar?
Randle: I expect to play both but will work hard wherever the coaching staff ask me to play.
BRI: In your opinion, what is the best attribute you bring to the football field?
Randle: Toughness. I don’t mind making a big hit so I enjoy playing on defense and making plays on all special teams.
BRI: What should Lamar fans expect to see from you for the next 4-5 years?
Randle: I want to make huge progress on the field and graduate from college. I’d also try to be the best player in the Southland Conference/FCS division and hopefully considered for the NFL.
BRI: Have the coaches laid out expectations for you this fall?
Randle: Not really. I was told was that I’m going to play defense and special teams which excites me.
BRI: What are your personal expectations as a freshman?
Randle: I hope to play as a true freshman and make a huge impact on the team.
BRI: What kind of on-the-field goals have you set for yourself while at Lamar?
Randle:
• Play as a true freshman
• 5 special teams TD’s
• All-SLC honors
• All-American honors
• Awarded all types of accolades for my play
• Be a ball hawking/tackling machine
• Defensive/Special Teams specialist
• Win a conference championship for Lamar
BRI: What was your favorite part of your recruitment?
Randle: When Lamar came in and said they were going to offer me and they did exactly that. They made the process pretty easy for me.
BRI: Least favorite part?
Randle: Having to start so late, I’m ready to go!
BRI: Anything you wish you could have done differently during your recruitment?
Randle: Personally I wish I had started my recruiting process my sophomore year.
BRI: What does it mean to you to be able to play your college ball in your hometown?
Randle: It will be nice to have my family around and the city behind me. The city of Beaumont, Ozen Panther fans, and my family will be a part of all of my successful accomplishments which means a lot to me.
BRI: Thanks for your time and good luck Rodney.
Randle: Thank you guys for having me.
