Matlock Resigns

BEAUMONT, Texas – After a month on the job, Lamar men’s basketball assistant Tony Madlock is on the move again headed back to the SEC. Madlock has been named an assistant coach at the University of Mississippi announced Rebels’ head coach Andy Kennedy.

“I want to wish Tony all the best at Mississippi,” said Lamar head coach Tic Price. “Being able to bring Tony to our staff was a huge coup. He has had a great impact on our program in a short period of time. Obviously, I would have liked to have kept him around but this is a great opportunity for he, and his family. When the SEC is coming to your school and hiring your coaches, it lets you know you’re headed in the right direction.

“I knew this was a possibility when we hired because Tony is a highly respected coach. Despite that, I felt it was a risk worth taking. We are trying to build something special here, and I went after the best coaches available. That is how I have always been.”

Madlock came to Lamar last month after spending the previous four seasons at Auburn. A coaching veteran of 20 years, Madlock has also made stops at UTEP and Arkansas State before his position at Auburn.
