McGallion Leaves Football Program

BEAUMONT, TEXAS– As reported last night sources tell BigRedInsider.com that Lamar defensive coordinator and longtime staff member Craig McGallion has left the program effective immediately.

McGallion was in his sixth season at Lamar and his second as the team’s defensive coordinator.  The Cardinals have struggled defensively for most of this season allowing averages of 457 yards and 32 PPG versus FCS competition.  Last Saturday the Cards allowed 559 yards and 30 points versus previously SLC winless Nicholls State.

It is assumed that the defense will be taken over by current Lamar linebackers coach Mark Criner.  Criner has more than 20 years of coaching experience, including 15 years at the FBS level, and 12 years as a defensive coordinator.

The Cardinals have two remaining games on the schedule. This week in San Antonio versus Incarnate Word and in two weeks at home versus rival McNeese State.
