Woodard visits Charlie Strong
BEAUMONT, Texas – Standing out in a sea of burnt orange which descended on Beaumont, Texas Monday afternoon, Lamar Cardinals head coach Ray Woodard was one of several special guests on stage at the Beaumont Country Club for the Comin’ on Strong tour.
Woodard, who was proudly decked out in Lamar school colors, answered questions about his time in Austin. Woodard was a two-year letterwinner for the ‘Horns under Fred Akers. He helped guide UT to a top-20 ranking in 1982, and followed that up with a Southwest Conference title and a No. 5 national ranking.
Woodard continued his playing career at the next level. He was an eighth-round draft selection of the San Diego Chargers. Woodard spent the next five seasons with the Chargers, Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs.
