	Gals are 6-4. Playing pretty well.  Pitching has been mostly solid.  Bats are coming around.  Beat the orange team from Huntsville Tuesday.

	Strange scheduling though, first 20 games on the road

	As of today, three Cards have entered the portal.  Lowe and Rob Lee entered during the period available after Brooks was fired and Braden East put his name in early this week after the NCAA Tournament finished.  I hope all three find what they are looking for, but I really hope East will return to Lamar.  I have major doubts that he will return though.

	Since it's been confirmed that Alvin Brooks won't be returning, it's time to talk about what we see as the new direction.<br />
	If the rumors are true the new coach will have a good NIL budget to pull from.<br />
	<br />
	Do you see them going after an assistant from a power conference school?<br />
	Up and coming coach from a smaller program?<br />
	<br />
	You tell me.

	Cards host Northwestern St with seven games remaining including this one.  Lamar is currently in seventh place and no chance to get to the top of the conference before the tournament.  That said Lamar plays all four of the teams between them and third place in the remaining games, so Lamar can climb up the seeding chart.  Apparently, Lee and Holifield are somewhat in the doghouse as neither of them started the game.  To me Lamar is missing guys that will or can make the contested shot consitently.

"We lost a lot of guys on the line and in the secondary and we had to fill those needs. I feel like we did that with addition of 16 players in those two groups. With the high school players, we focused on the most talented players available."</span><br style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#000000;font-size:16px;" />

The Cardinals added five players on the front line between early and national signing day. "We really like the young talent we have brought in, but we felt some of them might need a bit more seasoning. The guys we've added from the portal provide us with some flexibility with that younger group of players."</span><br style="background-color:#ffffff;color:#000000;font-size:16px;" />

	Both women and men fall at SFA.  Women fell on a last .8 second inbound long three-point shot following a Lamar free throw miss and a timeout to get the ball to half court for the inbound.  Men fall by ten points but get an outstanding performance from East with thirty-three points and ten rebounds.  Problem was no help from the normal scorers and apparently Brooks decided that three of the starters didn't deserve to play for most of the second half.  Lee and Wilhite both ended the game with zero points and Holifield only scored five.  Those three also each played eighteen or less minutes.

	Lamar men and women host SFA Saturday beginning with the women tipoff at one PM.  Both games are big ones with the women tied for second in the conference one game back of McNeese.  The men are a little further back of first place SFA and must win if they want a chance to climb back to the top or at least be in the top four when the conference tournament gets here.

	Men's basketball takes on UNO in New Orleans this evening at 7PM.  The Cards are currently on their longest winning streak of the season at three games and have a chance to sweep a pair of conference road games.  Should be a tough game as UNO and Lamar were tied going into last Saturday's action with both teams playing one of the conference leaders.  Lamar got a win and UNO lost a close game.  Lamar will return home for four games after this one.

	Cards get a win over HCU in Beaumont 64-56.  Man, this team is hard to watch.  HCU is in last place, but you would have thought Lamar was for the entire first half and into the second.  First half Lamar was out scored, out rebounded, out hustled and committed more turnovers.  That said Lamar was only down six at the half as neither team shot a good field goal percentage.  In the second half, Rob Lee took over scoring wise with twenty-six second half points and a total of 31 to lead all scorers.  Holifield made ten of his twelve points in the second half and Wilhite finished out the double figure scoring with ten points.  Lamar was outrebounded by one for the game and had four more turnovers for the game than HCU.  Lamar's shooting percentage was much better in the second half.  Lamar travels to Nicholls Saturday afternoon and New Orleans next Monday for the next two games.  Nicholls is currently atop the conference standings with a twenty plus point loss at McNeese.
