Mike Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 - Great job by the Lamar defense last night. They gave up a couple big plays and the last drive hurt but they played their behinds off the entire game. - I said it during the game and i'll state it again.....the punt coverage last night was excellent but the kickoff coverage had it's moments. - Kade Harringtons impressive fall practices have carried over to the early part of the season. He's fun to watch and I feel he'll get more and more touches as the season progresses. - Was Peyton McVey injured? I noticed former QB Dillion Barrett starting and playing most the game at TE. - Speaking of injuries, did Payton Ploch get injured because I didn't see him on the field for the second half? - I've always been a Tyrus McGlothen fan and last night was one of his best performances I've seen yet. He was all over the field making plays and ended the night with a team high 12 tackles. He's not the biggest guy out there but he always plays big. - I saw it Friday night at a local high school game and saw it again last night......an official throws a flag then after thinking about it for a few minutes picks the flag up. Those things don't just fall out of your pocket so don't throw it unless you mean it. The obvious PI on Mark Roberts was a momentum changing no-call. - Speaking of officiating, I wish I could see a clear replay of the last fumble when LU was driving into Louisiana Tech territory. I'm not saying the wrong call was made, I just want to see it. - If Jesse Dickson continues to play at this level it'll be good for the LU defense heading into conference season. - When Jordan Edwards split the Bulldog defense to bring the Cardinals to within 6 points and they got the ball back and started driving again it looked like they might just pull off the shocker. Then the fumble on 3rd and 2 really ended the threat. One of these games LU will get a few breaks and win one like this. They put themselves in a position last night but needed to make a few more plays. - How big was it for La Tech for a walk-on sophomore kicker to make his first two college kicks (44 & 49 yards) in the 2nd half of a tight game with his heavily favored team on the ropes?? - If the Cards put in this type effort what will next weeks outcome in Stillwater look like? What about in conference? Quote
dirtybird Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 That's the best game I have seen Lamar play. Had a few blunders, but overall they played tough till the end. Herrington is a little beast, Took 3 to 4 guys to bring him down. Defense looked good, except the play they were caught not being ready. Offense line did well, just need to work on the outside rush. Special teams punt and kickoff team needs some work. Quote
Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 I am for sure in the camp that we are an improved team this year. That said, the coaching staff has to have this team playing disciplined mistake free football. Need to have the same intensity, focus and sense of purpose that a "Navy Seal" team has for a mission. We do that and I believe we have the talent to win a bunch of games!! Quote
LU1991 Posted September 8, 2013 Posted September 8, 2013 Made a few mistakes and a little home brewing but we were in it until the end. That in its self is an improvement from last year. Its early in the season but so far I'm impressed with the progress over the past couple of years. I believe we might win a couple more than most people think. Quote
AggiesAreWe Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 LA Tech losing their starting RB at the start of game was a big key. Quote
Guest Cardinalrule Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 LA Tech losing their starting RB at the start of game was a big key. No it wasn't Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I was at the game and this just in...."The Cardinals are much improved" I sat with Tech boosters and they were terrified as we drove down the field before the so-called fumble by Caleb. You could hear a pin drop in that stadium as we moved into LT territory. LT losing their running back was meaningless. He was no better than the second string replacement and no better than Kade Harrington. Caleb Berry was the best QB on the field. We will win several conference games and no one in the Southland will blow us out as in years past. WE HAVE MADE A BIG STEP FORWARD and no one should try to downplay the signifigance of what we accomplished Saturday night. GO BIG RED Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 And the reason LT's first string running back was not in the game most of the time was because a LAMAR CARDINAL layed his ass out! Quote
lu cards Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 bottom line is we could've won this game.we had 3 mistakes on offense that cost us points.we were able to run the ball effectively against a decent team for the first time since bringing football back.before the game I just wanted to be competitive and was disappointed after the game because I felt we out played them.cards took a step forward this week and hopefully its a sign of good things to come. BSFwins Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 I was extremely excited about the way the game was unfolding as I was keeping up with the score. I'm proud of the obvious improvement by this program. Maybe this type of game will let them know they can beat anyone in the SLC. I know this is a broad comparison but, after Lamar made the Sweet Sixteen. A Lamar player said, "i knew this team was special when we almost beat DePaul in Chicago!" I feel so much better about this team compared to last season. Looks like the program is heading in the right direction!! Quote
