    • Looks good on paper, but we will have to wait until September to see how it transfers to the field.
    • 29 new signees today.  Some really good size on both lines and a qb with some real size 6-5 220.
    • BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University football added 29 players – six signees and 23 transfers – to the 2026 roster announced head coach Pete Rossomando during his National Signing Day Press Conference Wednesday afternoon. The newest additions bring the Cardinals' entire 2025-26 signing class to 40 (17 signees and 23 transfers).   The transfers during the late signing period include four from the junior college level and 19 from four-year schools. Among the four-year transfers, 11 make their way to the Golden Triangle from NCAA FBS level schools. The incoming transfer class has received national praise being ranked as the top class in the Southland and third nationally at the FCS level, according to AthLinkd.   These most recent additions have a significant lean to the defensive side of the ball with 17 compared to 12 on the offensive side.    "We're obviously trying to fill needs during the signing period," said Rossomando. "We lost a lot of guys on the line and in the secondary and we had to fill those needs. I feel like we did that with addition of 16 players in those two groups. With the high school players, we focused on the most talented players available."   The position breakdown for the 2026 class consists of 11 defensive backs, five defensive linemen, four offensive linemen, three wide receivers, two running backs, two tight ends, a quarterback and a linebacker.    The overall signing class includes 12 defensive backs, six defensive linemen, five offensive linemen, four running backs, four receivers, four linebackers, three tight ends and two quarterbacks. The entire class leans to the defensive side of the ball with 22 defenders and 18 offensive players.    Lamar's coaching staff extended well beyond the Texas borders to bring in the 29 newest members. The current additions represent 11 different states including Texas (13), Georgia (3), Florida (3), Louisiana (2), New York (2), Maryland (1), Alaska (1), Ohio (1), Indiana (1), Massachusetts (1) and California (1), with one of those coming from the Golden Triangle (Brayren Briscoe – Beaumont West Brook HS).     With three-year starting quarterback Robert Coleman having exhausted his eligibility, the coaching staff added another signing caller. The Cardinals coaching staff hit the transfer portal to bring in former C-USA All-Freshman team selection Evan Bullock. A 6-5 standout from Anna, Texas, Bullock spent three seasons at Louisiana Tech where he completed 226 passes for 2,365 yards and 14 touchdowns. Bullock joins Braeden Imhoff (Prosper, Texas) who signed in December.    "We were looking for a guy who could come in and produce and challenge for the starting role," said Rossomando. "We've got a guy here who has started and this creates more competition at the position. Bullock brings added height to the position which gives you some advantages as well."   Whoever wins the starting role behind center will be protected by a core group of incoming offensive linemen. The Cardinals added five players on the front line between early and national signing day. The newest additions average 6-5, 310 pounds.    "The offensive line is similar to our defensive line additions," said Rossomando. "We really like the young talent we have brought in, but we felt some of them might need a bit more seasoning. The guys we've added from the portal provide us with some flexibility with that younger group of players."   In addition to the 29 additions listed above, Lamar also added two preferred walk-ons Wednesday – Brody Verner (6-2, 245, DE, Plano West HS) and Jeremy Wilson (6-4, 280, OL, Southern Arkansas). Verner was a second-team all-district selection in high school before signing with Stephen F. Austin and then moving on to SAU. Wilson is a local product who prepped at Hamshire-Fannett before going the junior college route.   #PeckEmCards   2026 National Signing Day Bios John Abrama – 6-1 – 175 – DB – Royse City, Texas / Royse City HS High School: A four-year letterwinner … Played in nine games during his junior year recording 21 total tackles with two pass deflections, two blocked kicks and an interception … Followed that up with a senior season that saw him play in nine games, make 48 total tackles (34 unassisted), with seven pass deflections, two interceptions and a blocked punt … He was also credited with 4.0 tackles for a loss … Was also a standout on the track and field team.   Lovie Berry – 6-0 – 175 – DB – Lancaster, Texas / Lancaster HS High School: A three-star prospect according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football … First-Team All-District 11-6A following a season that saw him record 19 tackles, 10 pass breakups with an interception … A threat on special teams as he returned one punt for a score … Also received attention from San Diego State, UTEP, Nevada, Tulsa and Bowling Green among others.   Brayren Briscoe – 6-0 – 170 – DB – Beaumont, Texas / West Brook HS High School: A former MaxPreps Player of the Game selection … Made 20 stops during his junior season … Recorded eight pass deflections and blocked a kick … Also intercepted four passes … Led prep squad to its best season in six years … Also, a standout on the basketball court.   Colton Cordova – 6-7 – 310 – OL – Mart, Texas / Mart HS High School: A first-team all-district and Academic All-District selection … Also held an offer from Gardner-Webb among others.    Taveian Landry – 6-0 – 175 – DB – Lafayette, La. / Acadiana HS High School: Guided his prep squad to a perfect 22-0 district record and three district titles during his time on campus … Picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown on the first defensive play of the season … Also drew interest from Navy, McNeese and Northwestern State.   Griffin Tillis – 5-11 – 185 – DB – Spring, Texas / Grand Oaks HS High School: A three-star prospect according to 247Sports … Considered a top 300 recruit in the state of Texas by 247Sports … Recorded 56 tackles and four interceptions as a junior … Also did not allow a touchdown during the 2024 season … Guided Grand Oaks to its first 6A postseason victory as a senior … Also received attention from Arizona, Pittsburgh, UTSA, UL Lafayette and San Diego State.   2026 NSD Transfer Bios  Brennen Bailey – 6-2 – 180 – DB – Sandy Springs, Md. / Our Lady of Good HS (UMass) Prior to LU: Played in 18 games, making 19 tackles (13 unassisted) with one for a loss … Broke up two passes … Prior to joining UMass was a standout for NCAA Division II West Liberty recorded 30 tackles, including 23 unassisted, with one for a loss … Picked off three passes and broke up nine others.  High School: Led his prep squad to a runner-up finish in the Capital Division of the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference standings and a playoff appearance.    Jabarie Baker – 6-1 – 160 – DB – Valdosta, Ga. / Valdosta HS (Georgia Military Coll.)
