Look at it this way, guys. It's progress. We scored a big TD against them. It looks as though this may have won the starting spot for Jeremy Johnson.

I hope so, I do think he has the stronger arm, with the speed of our WR corps I want to see more bullets and less rainbows in the passing game.

I thought we would have a better showing than this. Proves that size doesn't have everything to do with it. We need talent and they need to put some players on short leash. You can't be afraid to change things up when things go like they are. No passing game no rushing bad penalties and the D is getting slashed bad. I think that about sums it up.

I'm not afraid of change. I'm simply saying the coaches aren't reading this forum looking to us for advice on what to do. Get your point across and let it go! I want Johnson in as well. However, it obviously seems that in the game today it didn't matter who was at QB. We are outmatched. Cheer for Johnson, say you want him in, and move on. Like I said, Woodard isn't looking to BRI to see what we think. "Oh, they want us to bring in Johnson. Let's do it."

I'm not cheering for anyone over the other. Just the best players. This is called a discussion board last I checked which is where we give our opinions which doesn't change the game in any way, I get that. Next time before you jump to conclusions about my opinion please remember this is supposed to be discussion. This is not a well I don't like his opinion so I will tell him it doesn't matter board.

The first thing Brown said after the pass was "good arm by Johnson". I would have to think that it was a pretty insisting pass.

You can look at some of my prior posts. I totally understand that this is an exchange of opinions, etc. I am one of Jeremy Johnson's biggest fans. I want him in the game as much as you folks. However, I see a lot of bad-mouthing Bevil constantly (not you or anyone in particular; mostly on SETXsports). I'm just saying to lighten up on him.

I want the best players in the game as well.

Official stance, we we're out matched on this one. But the score should have been closer, I would say we gave them at least 1 with the amount of penalties we had and we fumbled our first TD chance.

The USA defense sounds pretty solid, they got good pressure on our QB all night long and they batted down several passes.

2 things that killed us:

Penalties - We helped the USA offense continue drives on two occassions that I can think of that ended up going for TD's. We also paralyzed our offense with holding and false start calls.

Offensive Execution - We did not know how to execute on offense. The USA defense was getting to us but that is no excuse, you have to make them pay with some quick passes maybe a toss to the TE's. We didn't make them pay for bringing the pressure and so they were able to take advantage of us all night. Also you cannot fumble on 1st and goal from 1 yard out. We should have had 2 TD's in this game.

Very disappointing outcome.

The coaching in this contest was very questionable, and I'm at a loss for how this team looked so unprepared for South Alabama. The offensive line, which had a huge size advantage, was a non-factor and was severely outplayed. Defensively, to give up so many big plays on third and long is inexcusable. The Texas College win was a joke, and the team's first real road game made Lamar look like a joke. I would've been fine with Lamar losing a close game and at least competing, but they looked like they had no business being on the same field as South Alabama, and that does not bode well at all heading into Southland Conference play in a few weeks. This team had better get squared away up front, at quarterback and in that secondary, because if they don't, five wins this season is going to be a stretch.

I have to say Bevil did not play a bad game. He had a few dropped that were catchable.

His one mistake I can point to was costly, (fumble) but with that said it sounded like he wasn't doing bad, it was more of our offensive line not giving him any time, and WR's dropping passes that shouldn't be dropped. Bevil did not lose this football game, the team did.

With that said, we waited far too long to put in a different QB. I would like to see us a bit more nimble on personnel changes, it's the beginning of our second season of football, it's ok to mix things up still. This was one of the few complaints I had last year, I thought Bevil should have came out after the USA game and we should have rolled with whatever else we had, but it took us a few more games before we did that.

Hind sight is 20/20. I'm just glad we scored that last TD, took a small part of the sting out of this loss.

The USA fans were great in the stands as well. Made us feel very welcomed...maybe they knew something I didn't.

Of course I didn't get to watch the game but it sounds like the "new and improved" o line really didn't hold up to the hype...something better happen with them or the same thing will happen with the majority of conference opponents...also sounds like the D fell apart...the whole qb situation IMO needs to be resolved with a starter that can be a leader and motivate...all 3 can play but who can lead and keep the team motivated?...who can have a drew brees like persona to get the team unified and motivated to give it their all, stay focused, minimize stupid penalties, and make some plays?...I personally think the unknown qb issue is affecting both sides of the ball...the qb is your president, your leader you look to lead the way...and I know usa is a great team but I guarantee we have just as many talented individuals as them or any team in the conference...we just didn't hit on all cylinders...just my humble opinion...

You keep saying you folks as if I have a horse in this race. I have not hung my hat with any player. I simply said that if you are loosing like that and you have other capable players maybe it would be nice to switch things up a little sooner. Take a chance what's the worst that could happen? You win the game? I didn't say anything at all about Bevil. I'm sure he's a great kid and I'm sure he's a great competitor and wants to be out just as bad as the rest. But this isn't about one kid or what school he went to or is he a local kid or not. This is DI football not pee wee. It's not who his parents are or what background he came from. It's about winning games and sometimes you must make tough decisions and not be afraid to change. That's all I was trying to say. Again let me throw the disclaimer out there. I do not care who plays I do not have any personal ties to anyone on the field. I wouldn't care if that was my own child on the field. If it could possibly make the team better then make the change. When your down by 3 or 4 TDs maybe it's time to try something new. Just my opinion.

I could not agree more. It really starts with game preparation. The O line was dominated and it looked as if they were very confused with the defensive front they were up against. I also think the QB controversary should now be put to rest. We could definitely be in for a long season if something does not change. Keep your heads up guys, and get back to work on preparing for next week.

Be it known that I have no ties to anyone on the team either. I argued the same point yesterday. You and I are on the same page. I wasn't speaking directly to you regarding Bevil either. I was just speaking in generalities.

Mike Venson had a decent game two good returns and 5 caries for 25 yards. He set up JJ's touchdown throw BTW.

Game thread some how got deleted, Mike will have to bring it back when he gets to a computer.

I would just like to second what CardinalClaw said good game USA and good luck the rest of the season.

I have no idea what happened to the rest of the game thread. The entire thread was deleted and it would take me all night to go back and restore it all. I went ahead and restored the 7th page and we'll go from there. :)

I want to add that I also don't think this was a talent difference (except for maybe at RB, they have some good RB's) we just didn't come to play football. We were't mentally prepared for this game at all.

I had a birthday party to attend and listened to KLVI until there was a fumble exchange between Bevil and Gilligam at the USA 1 yard line down 20-0.

Can someone feel me in on the rest of the game? IMO there were two big penalties that lead to 2 USA scores in the 1st half. A pass interference and personal foul that kept two long drives alive.

The defense has to cut down on mistakes and what was one of your best units last year (WR's) dropped a few passes.

You're right about those penalties in the first half, we kept two of their drives alive.

Here is the play-by-play:

The LU football team shot themselves in the foot big time.
