(AP) - Mike Marlow kicked a 42-yard field goal with three seconds to play to give Lamar an upset of Baylor, the defending Southwest Conference champion, in a nonconference game. The Baylor Bears had appeared to be the winner after Marty Jimmerson, a freshman, kicked a barefoot 41-yard field goal with 2 minutes 53 seconds left for a 2-point lead. Th e Lamar quarterback, Fred Hessen, complet ed a 21-yard fourth-downpass to the Baylor 49 to Howard Easley to hel p set up the lastminute turnaround. Jimmerson then worked the ball to the Baylor 20 for Marlow's game-winning shot. Hessen passed for one touchdown and sneaked a yard for another late in the fourth quarte r, giving the Lamar Cardinals a 15-14 lead before Jimmer son's kick. Lamar gave Baylor two touchdowns because of poor play by its kick teams, but made up the difference behind Hessen, a Navarro Junior College transfer. Baylor led by 14-9 at the end of the third quarter on a touchdown pass by Jay Jeffrey and his 1-yard scoring run. Quote
