Agree with the ranking especially until Lamar wins against opponents in the SLC.

Gotta agree, too. Until we start winning SLC games, I wouldnt expect any different.

On a side note.... after SFAs classless performance vs McMurry to start the season, I couldnt be any happier with their record. Hope they have a long season. :)

I have to agree with ya'll. Lamar needs to beat some D1 schools before they deserve to move up in the rankings.

Yeah I agree with the rankings too. I think this is exactly how my ballot looked. I was going to put UCA above SFA but since their QB got hurt I moved them down.

Laamr is the only SLC school outside of SHSU with a above .500 record :cheer: unfortunately those wins were against lesser competition.

Ready to see what we do against someone of a talent level similar to ours. (although I'm still not convinced that LU was that much worse than USA)

SFA is unsettled on a QB right now. I am not sure about UCA, but SFA is simply not performing well. Looks like Sam and McNeese will duke it out for the Conference title.

I have to get you props for admitting that. If you look at some UTSA boards, those guys are predicting to beat SHSU this weekend by multiples scores in some cases because of the work they did (and stats from) games against NAIA and DII schools. So far they have:

NAIA - won

DIII - lost

DII - won

FCS - lost

And they think they're going to beat Sam 40-20 in Huntsville? They refuse to admit that they're stats are biased because of competition.

Lamar fans have come a long way from last year. I think the vast majority have come to the realization that you can't guarantee victories based on wins against sub DI competition. I commend you guys for that.

I agree we have come a long way but I never used our stats against Sub DI schools for predicting what we would do last year. In our first three games we went down to the wire with a good DI school and then defeated another (SELU) so that was the thought behind picking Lamar over SHSU last year.

Nobody was expecting us those first few games, you guys were, and you had film. Partner those facts with your team being much better than what anyone imagined at the beginning of the season, and LU being far more 1 dimensional/lacking depth than most of us thought, we ended up losing 38 - 10.

Basically if Lamar had been facing the SHSU team from this year - last year I don't even think we would have picked us to win over you guys. It's now proven through multiple nice wins that you're a team not to be taken lightly. Remember last year you had a new unproven coach and the second youngest team in the league behind Lamar.

I have to give the UTSA fans a little bit of a break though, they're like we were last year, just completely thrilled to have a new program. It's hard to explain how magical that is. But the wiser me will definitely call them foolish for thinking they have a chance against you guys.

Hell, there were a lot of us on Katfans (myself included) That were scared of the Cards before the game.

I'm just hoping this game isn't a trap game, but UTSA is basically playing with a glorified Central Texas HS all-star team

I remember that. I think we were a little justified in our beliefs that we could win at the time, given what we knew of the situation. But after that game the and and coupled with the game before it, it became painfully obvious the rest of the season was much more bleak than the beginning.

I'm at least looking forward to having a more balanced offense this year when we play you guys, but I'm still pretty worried about that game. Tbones and I are making the trip to Sam this year.

You're right UTSA is playing with a HS all star team, that's not the problem though, the problem is they have little to no experience playing DI football and you guys do. Plus you're team is clicking on all cylinders. They're definitely a little wacko to think they will win this one. I wonder if I can make a little money off of this. :)

My beef is knowing they won't eat crow when it's all said and done. They running around with their chests puffed out, but when they get stomped by Flanders and Co., they'll all run away and start making excuses about experience, how they're a first year program, how we're ranked, blah, blah, blah.

I just want to see one of them admit, whoops I was wrong!

Any word on your RB's shoulder injury? He's the hinge on my decision of picking Lamar or SELA

Woodard has a presser tomorrow, maybe he will let something slip then. I wouldn't put too much stock into that injury/player though. Honestly I've been just as impressed with Venson, he is a little shiftier and speedier than Garrett and makes good cuts.

If we don't have Garrett we will have Venson and if we have Garrett, Venson should still get the ball some because he's a different type of runner, he's a good change up.

This is a tough one to call for me, the Cards have had two weeks to prepare and focus on this game, we beat them last year so there is ability but they weren't expecting us either. I'll pick the Cards because I'm a Cardinal. You're better off flipping a coin. I know we have a shot but I'm not sure if it's 50% or 20%.

I'm at the 50% mark right now. He's the deciding factor. I think having Venson in just means you're limited in your depth, which means SELA will pull out the win at the end. They put some points on McNeese in Lake Chuck, so we know they can score. The key will be can they shut down the Lamar offense enough to win.

I guess I'll make my pick 'em choices tomorrow.

I'm worried less about our offense getting shut down and more about our defense being unable to stop them. The defense has seemed to be a major issue in both UIW and USA games.

The only excuse we have is that several players have been hurt or out. I would upgrade our chances the most if I knew the status of Braden Thomas, the secondary needs to be better to beat SELU.

I disagree with CA on this one as Venson is 5'9, 160 lbs and can be dangerous in the secondary. The problem is getting to the secondary as with him being so small and not very strong (see strength and conditioning) one player can take him down.

Garrett is 5'8, 190 lbs and is like a bowling ball. He isn't very fast but he is hard to tackle one on one and if he gets blocks from the WR's and lineman down field he can make some nice runs.

I think Garrett is clearly the #1 RB for Lamar with Venson and Logan as his backups. JMO, obviously I could be wrong.
