2017 Preseason All-SLC Teams

The Southland Conference has announced its 2017 preseason All-SLC members and Lamar was given only one representative in Jr DB and Beaumont native Rodney Randle who earned 2nd team honors. Looking at what Lamar returns from last season that's not surprising because probably the only other player who could have made a case for one of the teams is LB Cameron Hampton. This goes to show how much turnover the roster has seen from the 2016 season. I'm not saying some of the guys we have for 2017 aren't capable of earning a spot on the end of the season team but typically preseason lists are based on what is returning from the previous season. Not surprising though is the number of Central Arkansas and Sam Houston selections. UCA led with 12 selections while SHSU had 11. UCA received 7 first team (2 offense - 5 defense) selections and 5 2nd teamers (3 offense - 2 defense). SHSU has 9 1st team selections (6 offense - 3 defense) and 2 2nd team selections (both offense). To show what kind of fire power SHSU returns, they earned 1st team nods at QB, RB, and all 3 WR positions to go along with a 2nd team RB as well.
