Spring ball starts after spring break. Saw some tweets from the players and they're ready for spring break to be over so they can play some football. Sounds good to me.

Uve usually got some pretty good insight on here ambassador, anything interesting you think will go on these next few weeks? Everybody else is welcome to chime in as well.

Well it's going to be the most interesting off-season yet, we have a veteran coaching staff in it's first year here. And we have a pretty big turn over on seniors so there are a ton of starting positions wide open.

Things I'll be following:

Are we changing our offense from the Pistol?

Health status of: Kicker, QB's (Berry and Mossakowski), RB, DB's

Is there a new tone on the team? (basically are the coaches espousing a more disc

iplined team. Are the players talking about these changes in a positive light)

Are the coaches identifying clear starters or prolonging the competition into camp?

How does the secondary look?

Really I just want to know who the new starters are going to be and if this coaching staff is a bunch of new yes sir's or are they the type of guys kind of like Knight that are really trying to hold this team to a high standard every day.

I think id like to see some starters named as well before camp and id like to see the team ran like PKs running his ship. Do you see anybody having an edge at any positions?

One that has an actual offensive line. My expectations are low this year.

Why are expectations so low for the o-line and team?

Cause I watched them last year and the offensive line was horrible. We have very athletic people on the team but without an O-line, that talent is going to waste. Just look at how many QBs we went through. And I don't know if if was coaching or just recruiting, but something has to change on the O-line.

Not trying to be a pain in the butt, but the "Pistol" is not really an offense by itself. I know you're just more interested in what type of offense we are going to be running and how it will look. I am too, but this is just one of those things that bugs me for some strange reason.

Nevada is the team most commonly associated with the pistol, but they are really just using a run heavy offense with zone read stuff(previously seen from the shotgun) mixed with some of the "traditional" I-formation/single back "power" type runs, and even some good old fashioned veer. The formation allows them to get the best of both worlds. There's no reason the pistol can't be used in in a more spread to pass offense like Leach's Air-raid...or any other offense for that matter. "Pro-style" west coast offenses included. "Pistol" just tells me where the QB and RB are going to be aligned.

/meaningless rant over

I agree the pistol I think gives us a better look in the running game we just have to improve in the blocking schemes imo.

If our line plays better this year we are a different team. We still may only be .500 but we will be competitive in every game. My biggest problem was with blowouts last year. We should not ever get blown out by Sam Houston like we did last year. UTSA did a better job against them and they where in their first year. With a good offensive line you can keep the ball for more than a 4 and out. If we can maintain some semblance of possession, we can take some pressure off the defense. Now the defense has holes as well, but not 60 points against us holes. A lot of that blame goes to possession. Football is a game of chess and we where spending the whole game on the defense. That is not the way to win a chess game.
