Bruce Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Per the following article, Marcus signed with Atlanta. Best of luck, Marcus! http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/sns-tsn-agn-fcs-signings-20120429,0,2335233.story Quote
Guest papabear Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Thats what it says here anyway. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/sns-tsn-agn-fcs-signings-20120429,0,2335233.story Haven't seen it anywhere else, and teams/players change their mind on the UDFA all the time, so I guees we can't be sure yet. Best of luck to him. Quote
Mike Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 A couple other SLC guys on that list I noticed were: Janzen Jenkins CB McNeese signed with the NY Giants Nathan Dick QB Central Arkansas signed with the Cowboys Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 This is really awesome, Atlanta has had some success in past years too. Glad he got on a good team, I hope he can find a way on the field. I will definitely be paying a little more attention to the box score out of Atlanta now. Quote
Guest boomer Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Atlanta has a strong passing game but really no notable depth at WR. I think this is a great chance for Marcus either in the slot or outside. I can't believe when we did the podcast we completely overlooked Atlanta! I would also like to see JJ get a shot and still think the Saints would be a great stopping point. Congrats to Marcus and do good because I'll be drafting you for fantasy. Quote
Mike Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 From Chris Dabe: "Marcus Jackson was the first Lamar player to score a touchdown when the school brought back the football program after a 20-season hiatus. He now is the first Lamar player to leave for the National Football League. Jackson, a 6-foot-1, 195-pound wide receiver, signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons after the seven-round NFL draft ended Saturday night, he said Sunday. Jackson figured either to be a late-round selection or to sign a free-agent deal, he said before the draft. J.J. Hayes, another Lamar receiver, was not drafted. As of Saturday night, Hayes had not signed a contract, agent John Biggins said." Mike Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I got a quote from Lamar Coach Ray Woodard on Marcus Jackson signing with the Falcons: "Im very excited for Marcus. I think this is a great opportunity for him. Knowing the type of person he is I know he'll give it everything he's got. He did so much for me and this program and it would thrill me to see him make it in the NFL." Quote
Mike Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 More SLC guys: SFA CB Ben Wells to the Redskins. I still wish he wouldve picked Lamar when he left UT. They really couldve used him last year. McNeese CB London Durham to the Seattle Seahawks Quote

Guest bigred360 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Congratulations to Marcus Jackson. He has to believe he belongs there and make plays early in camp because the coaching staff is always going to look at the drafted players first (they already have money invested in them) Jackson probably signs for a small signing bonus compared to the others. I hope he makes it! Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 Here's who Marcus will be competing against. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1167327-2012-atlanta-falcons-undrafted-free-agents-22-guys-signed-this-year/page/3 Quote
JJWooten Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Awesome news. Congrats to the that kid. It's always good to see FCS guys getting a shot at the NFL, and even better when they are taking over starting roles. Here's hoping for good things for MJ. Quote
