okstfan
So, as the name suggests, I'm an Oklahoma State fan, and given that it seems we're sending a bunch of players y'alls way, I thought I'd try and find out a little more about you. Glanced over your roster and saw a few guys that had been FBS before transferring down... Mostly just wanted a rundown of the team, I guess. Like, what kind of offense/defense you run, any fun facts, general insights, etc. Thanks!

Many of the FBS transfers have ties to the area but the guys from Oklahoma State fill thin positions for the Cards. The staff has a new OC and DC this coming season. The OC is Larry Kueck who has served as OC for the University of Marshall in the past and the DC is former Texas Longhorn and NFL'er Bill Bradley who was on Wade Phillips defensive staff in San Diego among other stops. The last two seasons the Cardinals were more experienced at WR/QB so they threw the ball a lot more than they ran it but I would expect to have more balance this season. Kueck only had a couple weeks with the returning players for Spring drills so it was hard to get a feel for the style they'll be running. Former Kentucky Wildcat Ryan Mossakowski is expected to be the starter at QB and I'd expect Kevin Johnson to be his #1 target next season. Defensively Bradley has them switching to a 3-4 base which is a switch from what they've run in the past. Personally I think it fits their personnel better but we'll see. With a ton of injuries to the secondary last season games got out of hand with this still being a new startup program and not having much depth behind those starters. Some of the transfers, underclassmen with more experience and returning players from injury should benefit the defense. If you'd like to know a little of the history theres a nice thread in this forum that is counting down until the season kicks off which has a bunch of fun facts about Lamar and the program. Ill link it here: LINK: http://bigredinsider.com/index.php?option=com_smf&Itemid=196&topic=36951.0 Thanks again and keep on posting!

okstfan
Thanks, I appreciate that welcome... So I guess with two new coordinators, it'll be somewhat of a surprise to you guys the playcalling and all, too, huh? I'm guessing it'll be singleback sets and some shotgun principles on offense (especially since I didn't notice a FB on your roster)... Regardless, I hope the best for y'all and for the former Cowboys on your squad.
Big T
Welcome to the board and thanks for your well wishes. Lets just say that this season was looking to be yet another dissapointing season as we were very thin in the QB, WR, DE positions and very young at the RB position so the addition of the players from OKST has really improved our chances of becoming contenders this year. Cplatt
Welcome to LU, we are an up and coming program with great support and great facilities and i expect both to get better. Lamar is known nationally as an Engineering school but looking to be the next Boise State type program. Hopefully with in the next few yrs we can sneak into FBS and compete and have greatness. We have great talent in the area so if we can keep some of these guys here, ruling the SLC should be cake (easier said than done) The community back Lamar athletics and with Pat Knight doing what hes doing with Basketball and baseball has always been a winner (until recently) this place will grow and so will its facilities which by some people are the best in the area. So Welcome again. Cplatt
