Mike Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 @bigredinsider: Former #LU receiver Marcus Jackson has 2 catches for 25 yds at the half for the Atlanta Falcons. Quote
TBonesLU Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 “(The coaches) told us that we’re not going to be able to practice every situation that we’re going to be in in a game,” rookie wide receiver Marcus Jackson said. “We came out today and we had our backs against the wall and we just tried to go out and continue to make plays. “We weren’t too successful tonight, but we’re going to go back to practice on Saturday and try to get those things corrected.” http://blog.atlantafalcons.com/jayadams/2012/08/10/falcons-rookies-have-mettle-tested-in-loss/ Quote
TBonesLU Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 It looks like they threw to him at least 3 more times. Quote
TBonesLU Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 http://www.atlantafalcons.com/depth-chart/ I don't know how finalized the depth chart is at this point in the season, but as of right now, Marcus is a third-string WR. That's already a step up from the practice squad. Quote

That's already a step up from the practice squad. I think you're reading it a little wrong. He's in a group of guys for 3rd string for that side of the field. There are actually 4 guys listed ahead of him (2 1st string, 2 second string) and then a mix of 6 guys competing for 2 3rd string spots. Really, he's competing for the 5th WR spot, which was talked about earlier. Quote

TBonesLU Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Matt Bryant, the Falcons' kicker (and fellow Bridge City High alum), told me earlier today that Marcus' best shot is on the return team. Quote

Any shot in the NFL is a good shot. I hope he makes it on the team above the practice squad. We need more SLC alum in the NFL. Quote

It's funny when you look at NFL rosters that you tend to see a lot of less-than-powerhouse schools listed under the players' respective schools. I see a lot of Boston College/Temple/fill in the blank. I like to see this because you see more and more the players from Alabama and Oklahoma going to the NFL in the first 5 picks of the draft and having dismal careers in the NFL. I'm not necessarily hoping that the players from the big-name schools fail, but it's nice to see the "little guys" getting on the depth chart more and more. Quote
JJWooten Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 I'm almost always hoping those guys fail because it means teams from lesser known schools can step in and play. A lot of people forget that some of the best players (Jerry Rice for example) come from smaller programs. Look at Tony Romo or Joe Flacco, both are starting QBs who played at FCS schools. The talent is out there, you've just got to get past the idea that SEC/Big12/Big10/Pac12 means they are magical. Quote
Redrain07 Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Some others that come to mind a Walter Peyton(Jackson State), Michael Strahan (Southern) etc. The talent is clearly there in FCS level schools but everyone likes to stick their nose up at it. Quote
TBonesLU Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 http://www.atlantafalcons.com/query_result You can follow this link to look up anything on the website containing Marcus' name. It appears he had some great days in camp, and he caught 3 passes vs. CIN last Saturday. EDIT: It appears the link just takes you to the general page. Type "Marcus Jackson" in the search bar and every tweet or mention of him in an article/tweet is listed. Quote
Mr.KnowItAll Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 Not sure if he will make the team but he will for sure make the practice squad and get paid to play football this year. I hope he can make the team or get picked up by another team who needs a receiver. He could easily make someone's team. But if not, he can make an impact on the practice squad and make the team next year. Wish him luck. Quote
