- Jacory Augustine did not qualify and will have to sit out this season.

- Ian Kelsos injured knee isn't serious enough to keep him out of action. He suited out last night and will attempt to play as long as he can stand the pain.

- Anthony Beard isn't as lucky. His knee injury will require surgery and he is out for the season. This is the same knee that's been injured multiple times. A bad break for Anthony and the Cardinals defense.

- Beards injuy will cause a shuffle within the LB corps moving Jermaine Longino from the outside to inside and his outside spot should be filled by Jestin White. White did deliver a big hit to DePauldrick Garrett last night during goaline drills and looks ready for the challenge.

- Another couple injuries from last nights practice were RB Herschel Sims sat out the last hour of practice with ice on his shoulder and WR Barry Ford had his pads off shortly after WR drills. The story on Sims is just a shoulder stinger and Ford had a stomach problem early in the practice. I was told both are fine and will not miss any time.

- As reported here it looks like Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word and New Orleans will be your newest members of the Southland Conference. SLC presidents had a conference call yesterday to discuss and it looks like it's going to happen. Personally I like the three choices and think they're probably the best available for the conference considering the circumstances.

Notes from practice:

- As good as Ryan Mossakowski was two nights ago, Caleb Berry was last night. He was on the money with most his throws and I dont think he turned the ball over.

- Reggie Begelton made some highlight reel receptions last night. Hopefully he keeps it up and becomes another weapon at WR.

- add WR Jayce Nelson to the growing group of freshman getting meaningful snaps at practice. He was heavily involved with the 2nd team last night and could play this season. He still has the soft reliable hands he had in high school.

- still the same 50-50 split of big plays for the offense and defense last night. There were some jarring hits provided by the defense on a couple goal line run attempts. If these guys are hitting their teammates this hard they'll be ready to bring the wood to opposing players.

- Only 15 days until UL-L.........got your red on??
