Report: Trey Haverty to be new DC

Beaumont, Texas–  Reports from www.footballscoop.com tab Trey Haverty as the next defensive coordinator for the Cardinals.

Haverty who is a graduate of Texas Tech spent three seasons at his alma-mater coaching safeties in 2013-2014 and switching to outside linebackers last season. Havery joined the Red Raider coaching staff after spending five years on the staff at TCU under Gary Patterson. During that time he coached two different position groups – safeties and wide receivers.

Haverty would be replacing former defensive coordinator Craig McGallion who abruptly retired last season.  The hiring of a new defensive coordinator means changes are upcoming to the defensive side of the football for the Cardinals. Longtime Lamar assistant Carey Bailey has accepted a position at Tennessee-Chattanooga and rumors are interim defensive coordinator Mark Criner has multiple interviews at other schools upcoming and likely will not return.
