Eighth-seeded UIW defeated top-seeded Lamar 6-3 in the first round of the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field in Hammond, La.

Incarnate Word scored all of their runs in the eighth and ninth innings to overcome what was a 2-0 lead by the Cardinals through four innings.

Lamar trailed 3-2 headed into the bottom eighth inning but tied it up thanks to a sacrifice fly by Ethan Ruiz which scored Austin Roccaforte.

Cameron Caley's three-run homer in the ninth gave UIW a 6-3 lead, one that they would not relinquish.

Lamar falls to the loser's bracket and will face an elimination game against Northwestern State at 9:00 am on Wednesday.

    • As of today, three Cards have entered the portal.  Lowe and Rob Lee entered during the period available after Brooks was fired and Braden East put his name in early this week after the NCAA Tournament finished.  I hope all three find what they are looking for, but I really hope East will return to Lamar.  I have major doubts that he will return though.
    • Ladies keep the winning streak alive with a 10-8 win over Baylor in a mid-week game.  Winning streak is now at fourteen games, but will be put to the test come Friday with a weekend series against Southeastern La who is currently the conference leader and undefeated in conference.  First game Friday is at 4 PM in Hammond.
    • For those watching the D2 title game- Gannon is the school that Fee turned around. Their current HC was an assistant working with Fee that season before Fee moved back down to Florida to be an assistant at FAU.
