BTW, Anthony Odens older basketball playing brother is in attendance tonight. Saw him in the press box.

Neat. Hope he comes to more games we could have him and perk at one game that might make the news.

I'm freezing and am going to try to get warm. I wasn't prepared for the temperature.

Probably not a lot of interest in seeing an NAIA opponent.

I doubt a lot of the students (namely female) really thought about the opponent when they bought tickets. I hope that is the case though.

That weather sucked. The wind was the worst part. I stayed until the fourth but i didnt want to get sick. That was actually a good. Turn out. I'm very cold and miserable but glad I got to see the game.

Official attendance goes down at over 15K tickets sold for the game. I bet there may have been 3500 there tonight which wasnt that bad considering the terrible conditions at Provost-Umphrey all night long.

Yeah, if it had just been the drizzle it would have been ok, but when you have 25 mph wind blowing constantly on you from one side and you're wet, it's pretty miserable.

I'll admit that was much worse weather wise than what I anticipated, I really thought it would let up eventually but tropical storm Lee was a jerk!

I ended up sitting in the student section because there were so few people. I would say that in the first half there were around 5,000 and as soon as half time hit it probably dwindled down to about 1,000.

I must say I guess I'm a fair weather fan. I got ready, in my red, and left for Beaumont from Bridge City. All the while I'm thinking what am I doing, I could not see the bridge and as I got to the last turn around before the Rainbow Bridge. I then took the turn around. I knew I was going to get wet. I don't have the proper rain gear and I was worried my camera would get too wet.

I appreciate all that did make the game, especially the End Angels, cheerleaders and those that did not have a choice.

Well we did not have to worry about overheating at this game.......which I would take rain over heat any day!!

I wish everyone would have felt that way. Horrible heat last year and we have a sell out crowd, terrible rain this year and there were maybe 5000 fans in the stands at the height of the game.

I know what you mean though, my only problem was that rain kept getting in my poncho when I stood up because my snaps broke. That combined with wind was misery for me. I stuck it out until 7 minutes to go in the fourth.

My Game Thoughts:

I didn't get to pay the methodical attention I would have liked to to every play because I ended up sitting on the student side where watching the game is more about being loud than gluing your eyes to the field of play.

But I did see alot, enough for me to make some statements on the team.

First let me start off by saying that Texas College was horrible, this is no insult to them, it's just the truth, compared to any DI team they just don't match up. Our starters busted through their offensive line at will and could have given the Steers negative total yards if they would have stayed in longer. Their QB did not make good reads, I saw a few routes that he should have hit if he were a little more trained. For this reason I almost feel its worthless to say anything about our secondary, a scrimmage against our own team would have been more productive for them. When the second string secondary was in for us there were a couple of times we looked a little weak on coverage. Now as to the hitting ability of our defense and secondary I can say that we are not afraid to put a body on anyone. This was something that I liked to see. We liked to hit and we liked to hit hard.

Every single DL guy was able to get pressure to the QB, we were simply stronger and muscled our way through their offensive line every single time.

Offensively there is only a few things to say, the wind and rain hampered the passing attack all night long and I don't feel like we got anything out of that game because of it. Bevil threw some passing TD's that were called back because of penalties. JJ threw some decent passes out there that were bobbled and went to the ground, but it looked like he struggled getting a good grip on the ball in the rain. JJ usually as a good spiral but he couldn't put any zip on the ball and kind of lofted his only two deep throws. Now JJ looked like a star on the ground for the two scrambles I saw, at one point the left side tackle let a guy through and it seemed as if JJ just sensed it, he really likes that spin move and took off spinning and bouncing off what seemed like 3 or 4 would be tackles. Prewitt was the most disappointing story and it's not because of his performance, he only had two attempts and that was in large part due to the fact he was working with the 3rd and sometimes guys I think would qualify for a 4th string. The center that was snapping to Prewitt couldn't get the exchange off right. Prewitt's first throw was over the middle and was just a bit too high for his receiver in the rain. If it would have been dry that might have been the best down field pass all night long. I feel like Bevil still forced the ball on the throws I saw but maybe I'm just biased.

That's as most as I'm willing to say about the pass game, it was wet and Bevil probably would have ended up with the most TD's if it weren't for some dumb penalties.

The 1st string offensive line looked great! One of the best parts of last night team. They simply ran anyone over that was trying to get to the QB, they also only had one false start that I believe was on Oden. The second string guys still looked alright but the left side wasn't nearly as good, there is a big drop off, they let a few guys through and they seemed to have many more problems with false starts. This is where we will win or lose games, it's with all the second string guys on both offense and defense.

The kicking game, well it's hard to comment because the wind either hurt or helped, but I must say I loved that we kicked that first ball out of the stadium. Sanchez did have one boot into the wind that was notable, he shanked the rest on purpose, which if fine and all but I would have liked to see him put more of those up in the air so I could get a guage on his leg strength, but the coaches already know it and they're the only ones that need to know.

Still it does appear that the special teams kicking and punting will be better than last year and that is a positive for me.

That's the few comments I have on this game, and really can't wait to see next weeks game because Texas College didn't test us in any category.

I think LAMAR could of put up 100 points on TC but it just looked like to me at some point in the second quarter we lost our intensity because of the level of competition we were going up against. It didn't look like they were into the game like they were when the game started an they were just out there running the that was called.

I agree, but our second string and definitely the third string guys were also just far less dominate against Texas College, they still had the Steers number but we weren't busting through their line on every single play like our first string did. If we had kept the first string in more we would have absolutely murdered Texas College. And if it hadn't rained and gusted at 30 mph the ENTIRE game we would likely have had several more TD's regardless of what string was in.

I now understand why SFA hung 92 on this team, it was likely better weather. Our second and third string guys could have put up quite a few TD's if the rain didn't force us to run every single play on the ground.

Thank you. You seem to be mature enough to understand there were circumstances behind SFA's win the Jacks could not control. The "no class" allegations posted by some were way off base. SFA has two REAL TOUGH games coming up, including Baylor.
