Guest kgraves@cci.edu Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 It's a shame if Desmond can no longer resume his playing career! I happen to be in Stillwater for the Cardinals game with OSU. Question: How is Beaumont, TX the leading City of producing NFL players and Lamar cannot find Running Backs there. What I witnessed during the OSU game was simply horrifying. Nothing against the RB'S but those two kids are not it. While sitting next to a gentleman from Texas High School Football mag, he mentioned a kid named P.G Henderson from Austin that was a 3 or4 star athlete. I hear this kid has the size, speed and sure game. Why wasn't this young man on the Field against OSU? Is he out? I've done my digging in the Austin area and from what I'm hearing, WOW! There is simply no reason this kid should remain a mystery. I will be watching closely the next few weeks to see if P.G's name or game inserts into the starting rotation. Quote

In reference to P J Henderson (couldn't find PG Henderson on the roster): Everything I've looked at is that he was a wide receiver coming out of Anderson High School in Austin (Rivals / Scout). He's on the Lamar roster as a tight end. He does have size at 6' 3" 230. He's put on some weight too. He was listed at 195 and 210 respectively on Rivals and Scout. I think Kade Harrington is a pretty good back. At least he has looked pretty good in the games I've watched. He had 143 yards on 7 carries in the 1st half Saturday against an admittedly much, much, much weaker team than the Cowboys. Comparing running back success vs the OSU defense, he had about as much success against OSU as any of the backs that played against the Cowboys. He gained 66 yards on OSU. Yards per carry were only 3.3, but that's in the same ball park as the Mississippi State (FBS) and UTSA (FBS) running backs. Based on the tv broadcast, it seemed to me that our offense was primarily based on the short game. Looked to me like OSU could stack the line. Quote
Guest kgraves@cci.edu Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Thanks, sorry for jacking up his name! Why is this kid sitting, or is he injured, is he still active? I'm told he also played Running Back and was a heck of a good one too. WINE should be the only good thing left on the shelve. Not great athlete's. I looked up his background both football, basketball and track, again! Where is he and why hasn't he been on the field. Quote
BSFwins Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 He was a very good HS RB but for some reason he has been converted to TE. I will say that there aren't too many college RB's 6'3. It's hard for those tall guys to run with their pads low. Besides Eric Dickerson can you name a college or NFL RB 6'3 or above. Majority are 5'10 to about 6'2, I've seen play. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 For whatever reason, he has seen limited action the last couple of years. Like you, I hope we have the best and most productive athletes on the field. It would be a shame to waste talent. Sent from my Android device using Tapatalk 2 Quote
BSFwins Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Agree, I would hope in someway our best athletes are on the field. That said a great HS player doesn't always translate to a great college player. Lamar men's basketball once got a guy from Houston that was a top 100 recruit in the nation and signed with Wichita State. Later transferred here during the Coach G. years. I remember the connection was the coach was an assistant at Rice and the young man went to camps there. I will recall later his name but he wasn't a star here at Lamar either. I want to say he was in the Top 30 in the country coming out of HS!! Quote
coachacola Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 P.J. Henderson signed with Jackson State out of high school but only lasted on year there. He was a rivals 2-star athlete back then, not a 3 or 4 star. I don't think he was highly recruited. Sounds like he just isn't that good at the college level. Quote

Guest kgraves@cci.edu Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 WOW! Coachacola, I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. I just simply want to know what has happened and why isn't or hasn't he been on the field. You judge a player by his performance on the field, not where he was recruited. I myself saw the OSU game, and from what I saw being a former back myself! Every back on that team should have been given an opportunity that night. When you're getting plastered by 50, the smart thing to do is explore and grade your other personnel. From what I'm now hearing, this kid along with a few others should have "BEEN" given an "OPPORTUNITY" instead of a "GIFT" I personnally know, Beaumont is full of talented RB that can go the distance on every play instead of 3.3 or 66 on 66 carries. How many local RB are on this Roster? Quote
LUSportsFan Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Minor point... The 66 yards was on 20 carries. (3.3 yard per carry) As I mentioned above, LU's running back production was not that much different than that of the other OSU opponents this year. Below is the comparison including the top three yardage makers for each OSU opponent. Mississippi State 111 yds on 37 carries with 5 backs for 3.0 yds per carry L Perkins 50 yards in 16 carries (3.1 yds per carry) .............Breakdown of carries 3, -2, 2, 3, 19, 22, 2, 5, 4, -2, 1, -3, -1, 0, -1, -2 J Robinson 48 yards in 8 carries (6.0 yds per carry) D Prescott 9 yards in 6 carries (1.5 yds per carry) QB UTSA 135 yds on 32 carries with 8 backs for 4.2 yds per carry E Okotcha 35 yards in 11 carries (3.1 yds per carry) ..............Breakdown in carries 1, 3, 5, 6, 1, 3, -1, 11, 0, 2, 16 E Soza 25 yards in 6 carries (4.2 yds per carry) QB K Bias 24 yards in 2 carries (12 yds per carry) Lamar 121 yards on 37 carries with 3 backs and the punter for 3.3 yds per carry. Total yardage includes loss of 5 yds by punter on trick play (one carry). K Harrington 66 yards in 20 carries (3.3 yds per carry) ...............Breakdown of Carries 16, -1, 0, 21, 6, 0, 0, 1, 3, 3, -5, 7, 1, 2, 0, 2, 1, 3, 5, 1 C Harmon 44 yards in 11 carries (4.0 yds per carry) C Berry 16 yards in 5 carries (3.2 yds per carry) QB Based on the above, there haven't been too many, if any teams with large single run yardage gains against OSU this year. It may be one of the reasons they are ranked #11 in both polls. Quote

I would think the coaches would get him in the game as much as possible if they thought he'd make an impact. I have nothing against him, I just think he's just not good enough to get a lot of playing time. I did notice on his Rivals page his SAT score of 1700+, he's a smart kid that's for sure. Quote
Mike Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 FORMERRB first, thanks for joining and posting. Caleb Harmon is from PNG and Payton Ploch is from Dayton. IMO Freshmen Kade Harrington and Emmitt Raleigh will both be solid contributors at the RB position for Lamar for the next 3 seasons. I wouldn't judge how they fared vs Oklahoma State as an indicator of how they'll play vs fellow SLC competition. Let's see how they do in the upcoming weeks. Quote

I don't know how many 2-3 Star Rival players we have at Lamar but if this kid landed at Lamar we need to see what's going on and why he's not being used. It sounds like they may have him out of position but if they have him down at TE they should definitely get the ball to him with his size, speed and intellect. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Mcvey is one of the best te in the slc.....and we aren't getting the ball to him " Beaumont is full of RB that can go the distance every play "----that's just foolish talk right there....wb has a good rb, doubt he could score every time he touches the ball ::) I think Harrington is gonna be a heck of a college rb...Raleigh looked good also Quote
puddin tane Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 For what it's worth...I think this is plochs 4th different position....he was defense , te,wr, now rb. Harrington and Raleigh are true freshman, Harmons been here forever and deserves the touches in a blowout. Richards is probably gone. That's it, I think, unless you want to start blowing thru the red shirts. Quote
Guest kgraves@cci.edu Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 C'mon on Puddin, You know what I mean, let's not take an SAT exam to fiqure out what's being said. My point is, I'm very sure their are guys within the city of Beaumont, and on the LU roster that has the "VISION" "SKILLS" and "ABILITY" to pose a threat or at least, get the attention of the defense no matter who you're playing. Looks like there's been plenty of opportunities for the TE. I understand he's pretty good but not being utilized as well. Get him the ball! Puddin' LU seams to have good athletes on it's "ROSTER" but it seems their either not playing, or not being properly utilized. Who's the O/Coordinator? If there's good talent on your team, then use them "NOW" When being paid to do your job, you're supposed to get the work done or make a great "HONEST/FAIR" effort in doing so. Take a look at all Championship caliber teams! They all have no hesitation in using their skilled players all over the field. Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Kade Harrington is the best back we have had since we restarted football. Quote

BigNasty92 Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 The only thing worse than Simms' playing effort was his character. Quote
Card Nation Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Former RB, it appears that you are connected to PJ in some way based on your comments. I am sorry that things have not worked out the way you would have liked. It sounds like your intention is to get more playing time for PJ. Instead of badmouthing other players, you may get better results by helping pj through his last year of colllege. Very few athletes get to compete at the college level and he should be grateful for at least getting the opportunity. If you tell him he is getting screwed then in his mind he is. You, in effect, are undermining the positives that are the actual facts of his life. Life is about the journey bro. Make the best of what you have Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 Quote

dirtybird Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Man this should not even be a discussion. Lamar gets a good kid that can run his tail off, and someone wants to say he isn't good. Well , I will say this, You are full of it. Quote
