** Lamar at Grambling State....LU wins 27-16**

Not sure what the deal was with Berry in the first half. He had lots of time to throw the ball, looks like he was rushing his throws, and forcing some. The good thing was he settled down and started looking good. I agree stop the fake punt, and line up under center when on the 1 foot line. Grambling was fired up in the 1st quarter, until our defense made some adjustments, and began shutting them down. Lamar had quite a few fans at the game, that was nice to see.

Thanks for the update. I was following the game on an ESPN app, but it only gave scores of our game on an extremely delayed basis. There was no detail at all.

(Couldn't listen to the KLVI broadcast - daughter and grand-daughter in from Colorado. I know. I need to get my priorities straight. :) )

Wish we didn't have to come back from 16 points down early in the game, but it's great that the team did right the ship and come home with a win on the road.

I couldn't follow the game closely, either, but I like this "ugly" win more than some of the ones we've had the last few years: in reality, we controlled the game, but made entirely too many mistakes. Make even one or two less mistakes and the game is the more decisive victory that we hoped it would be. It also has to be said the coaching staff seemed to make quality adjustments, and the players didn't lose their composure after some terrible play early. It also seems that Grambling got no pressure on the quarterback, which is concerning given the interceptions Berry threw, but bodes well that the line has made a legitimate improvement over last year.

Can't figure out the Southland this year, though. Sam's good, but we knew that. McNeese is schizophrenic, blasting an FBS team, yet getting blown out by a good UNI team and nearly losing at home to a D-2 team. Central Arkansas has been solid, but not awe-inspiring. Nicholls somehow beat an FBS school, yet struggled with Langston and was in a fight with the Fighting Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech. SFA seems to be doing an impression of a mid-2000's Texas Tech team, giving up oodles of yardage even as they score 40 every game. Southeastern looks solid, and Northwestern State looks decent. Should be an interesting year in conference; if LU can even hang with Sam, it's a good sign for the year. I'm not terribly optimistic, but that is more respect for Sam's team than a lack of faith in LU. I expect we'll be competitive in every other conference game this year, and will be very disappointed if we see 3-4 more games where we're getting blown out.

Might be partly due to OSU dropping 20 places and LaTech dropping 9 more places.

Grambling's overall rating of 533 certainly doesn't help. Wouldn't be surprised if we dropped some just by playing a team rated that low. :)

Beating Grambling by only 11 caused LU to drop 21 spots in the Massey ratings.

I could care less where we are ranked with Massey. All I want is for us to be competitive in every conference game we play.

I'll say that even though we won I am frustrated that our team always plays with alot of mistakes. Has LU had a close to mistake free game since we've been back? I can't remember one. It seems like we're not prepared well, that's just my observation. I am encouraged that this might be one of our better teams, just noting the trend in errors we seem to make.

A significant drop is exactly what I was expecting!!

I was able to make the road trip and found the experience interesting. I thought i would share.

1. The field was below grade level. In other words, the field is in a hole in the ground. When u walk to the field from the entry gate everyone enters on the top row of the stadium and walks down to their seats. It was fairly steep as well. I was winded. The fact that i was winded may have more to do with my current level of fitness than the field, however. :).

2. I love Lamars band. We are relatively small but look and sound great in my opinion. Grambling's band was huge and very impressive as well. Typically at the half , i guess, a third of the people or more go to the concession stand. But at this game, no one moved. And the band did not disappoint. My daughter and i enjoyed the performance very much.

3. The PA announcer was the worst ever. He talked the whole game. And it was LOUD. Their were times when he is was basically screaming over the PA when we were on offense. Even though i didnt like this it still added to the whole experience. I talked to two grambling students while walking out of the stadium and they were very nice. Just frustrated with the season they are having. As a side note they wanted Doug Williams fired and they wanted him to take his son with him. I actually thought williams jr was a pretty good player though.

Their field sounds sort of like the Frisco soccer field where they played the FCS championship. Has a little different feel to it.
