puddin tane Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Agree, there were maybe 8k in actual attendance.....about half of those left before 4th quarter I didn't hear much advertising for the game Just throwing it out there.....Ball had ,I think, 3 field goals over 50 yards in high school...hell, I like our chances of that vs the 3 plays called Quote
LUSportsFan Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 ..and I'm sure the negativity on these boards really encourages people to want to come out and support the team. 2 close games with ranked opponents it's cslled "stagnate"....10k plus sttendance is called "pathetic". Give me a break. I can agree with this. I wonder if some of these posters are really Cardinal fans , they complain even after a win. There is no way over 10K was there yesterday. Maybe tickets sold but not people in attendance. Kind of like Lamar having 5,000 at a men's basketball and my 11 year old can see there isn't over 3,000 people there... Now, I do see improvement with the team. I think by the scores it is obvious. Why is it not a problem questions coaching decisions about why we didn't try to score leading a team by 50 but not questioning the fact a pass play was called but why a rollout to the short side of the field?!?! I know I'm not alone in wondering the play calls on the final series. In reference to attendance, the NCAA allows two methods for Division I programs to count attendance. One is actual attendance. The other is paid attendance. My understanding is most universities use the paid attendance method. I see several advantages to using paid attendance. 1. Provides a direct match to revenue. 2. Most universities use paid attendance thus allowing a better comparison with other programs 3. Probably results in a higher number. 4. Could be easier to arrive at a valid number. Actual attendance requires one of the following. Each requires additional personnel or equipment 1. Collection of issued tickets 2. Turnstile count monitored by a representative of the department of athletics. That representative is required to provide written verification of the accuracy. 3. Individual count by member of the athletics department using a manual counter. Again, that representative would be required to provide written verification of accuracy. See: Section 20.9.9.3.1 of the 2013-2014 NCAA Division I Manual. (Page 351) Paid attendance is the method I would choose. That said, it would be good to have as many of the folks who paid to see the game to make the game. My wife and I are two of the no-shows. I got sick on Wednesday afternoon...just getting over it today and decided not to make the drive from west Houston this time. :( I had this game circled on my calendar when the schedule came out so it was tough for me to stay home. It was even tougher following the close game without being there. Just looked again. That section is for FBS so that doesn't apply to us. I think it provides some methodology that might be applicable. I found another document applicable to counting attendance. I didn't find a similar one for 2013-2014, but here's a link to the 2012-2013 NCAA Statistics & Policies Guidelines. Page two of the guidelines has the following statement concerning counting attendance. ...Attendance figures for official box scores and/or NCAA reports can be calculated by turnstile count, tickets sold or estimates... http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/stats/ForSIDs/policies.pdf Quote
puddin tane Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Oh, I 'm sure everybody uses paid....but you can bet they know pretty close what the actual attendance is , all the tickets are bar coded and scanned at the gate Quote
BigNasty92 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Now everyone is debating actual attendance?? Unfuckinbelievable. Y'all are too much. I'm done. Quote

Give me a break. Please, what is posted on this board is not going to impact attendance one iota. It is usually the same 15 or 20 people posting. Also, I am talking about butts in seats. There is no way there were 10,000. Maybe 6,000. If you were happy with that attendance then we obviously have totally different expectations. Btw, it is spelled stagnant. Quote
Cardinalrule Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Piling up 4 win seasons year after year is going to kill attendance so I understand not having a large crowd. For comparison, here's the attendance yesterday around the SLC (from ESPN box scores): McNeese - 15,352 SFA - 12,090 LU - 10,738 NW State - 8,383 I believe Lamar would get 15K+ at each game if they were winning like McNeese or SHSU, but with their track record will that ever happen? Excellent post. SFA 12,000 in Nacogdoches?!?! In my best Allen Iverson voice "Nacogdoches?! We talkin Nacogdoches? Nacogdoches?!" As for winning. Yep, I agree we win then the fair weather fans will start coming. That is another reason why this loss was so painful. Quote
nickels Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I've been calling out LU's attendance numbers for over a year now. I've also been telling everyone RayRay is a worthless hack. Glad to see some LU fans joining the Nickels bandwagon. Y'all should listen to me more. - Nickels (aka BRI hipster) Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 And how the heck did the UCA wr end up with that ball on the td? I got that same " what the hell happened" feeling I had years back, when LU lost at mcneese ( I think maybe the yr before we dropped football)....woulda, coulda , shoulda........ It was right in front of me!! Plain and simple!! He wanted the ball more than our 2 DB's!! there is no other explanation!! No trickery, just the "will to win" which our guys are not getting instilled into them!! Quote

Sorry, if that education you got for your athletic ability didn't help your judgment that younger people may not be members but as a father I can't always get on here without my 11 year old daughter seeing what I'm looking at and discussing. I'd like to keep this about Lamar University though if you don't mind? Quote
LAZEEK Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Actual attendance was roughly 8,300 per my source. Quote

The visitor's side was maybe 1/3 full. I doubt 12K was their actual attendance. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Looking at the linked highlights video, it looks like there were more in attendance on the East side ("student side") than in previous games this year. The camera is aimed at the East Stand side. Nice plays in the video also. Sounds like the crowd in attendance was energetic. About half of the East Side is set aside for General Admission and visitors. Looks like there was pretty good student representation. Room for more, but a lot more than the first two games. Here's a neat time lapse video of pregame. Music is good too. CCR is one of my favorite groups. While the stadium is definitely not full when the video ends, there are still a lot of fans outside of the stadium and a bunch lined up at the ticket purchase booth (lower right side of the video). Would have been nice if the video went a little longer. Looks like a great day for football. If anyone is interested in Lamar videos, I found these on the Lamar Athletics Facebook page. There are also lots of official LU Athletics videos on Youtube. Just search for "lamar1VIDEO". It's under BigRedSportsNetwork, but there's another BRSN (Cornell) reference. Quote

LU1991 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Unfortunately I had to miss Saturdays game (1st home game to miss since footballs been back). I did not have the chance to listen to the game either but from the outside looking in, I believe I might have missed the best game since the opening game against McNeese a few years ago. Sounds like we should've / could've won and it was a game until the end. In the past couple of years they have all been blow outs one way or another. I'm glad we have some solid games but now we need to win some of those games. I understand the disappointment but I do believe that we have turned the page in the right direction. The attendance is not just a winning issue but also an AD issue in my opinion. Larry Tidwell had the community on it's feet wanting to come to a game. He knew how to work a crowd and sell the game. I like Jason Henderson but he lacks the experience, salesmanship, fundraising ability and personality that it takes to run the program. In todays world it's not just about the sport. You have to sell it as entertainment for the entire family and that has been dropped for some reason. I would like to think that everyone is there for the football but that is not the case. They want to see fireworks, singers, dancers, little kids run out on the field, people parachuting in, planes flying over head etc....They want to be entertained! Quote
