LUSportsFan Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Both the Women's team and Men's team will be playing the Incarnate Word Cardinals at the Alice P. McDermott Convocation Center in San Antonio. The Lady Cardinals game is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm this afternoon. The Men's game will follow. According to the schedule, it starts at 4:00 pm. The UIW Men's team is 15-3 overall and 3-2 against SLC competition. Both SLC losses were close. UIW fell to Southeastern LA 72-76 in Hammond and fell to ORU 75-77 in San Antonio. SLC wins were against UNO 78-55 in New Orleans, UCA 87-72 and SHSU 85-74 in San Antonio. According to ESPN, on offense they rank 7th in points per game (85) and rebounds (42.4), assists (14th), and field goal percentage (14th). Defensively, they rank #1 in rebounds (30.7). With the exception of SLC teams and North Texas, they have played a sub DI schedule. There is one common opponent. Lamar played an exhibition game against McMurry winning 66-62. UIW played McMurry winning 83-56. Looks like our Cardinals better be ready to run or be able to slow UIW down. Both games will be broadcast by KLVI (AM 560). It looks like both games will be simulcast on lamarcardinals.com as well. It looks like video streaming is available from UIW's site. puddin tane Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 actually, coach, the school's enrollment is almost up to 10k...grad and undergrad.... Quote
LUSportsFan Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 I was thinking they may have been communications students getting some on air experience. I saw KUIW referenced on the link and figured it was the on campus station. It wasn't the most polished broadcast, but everyone has to start somewhere. If they are students, I'm pretty sure they will get better with experience. Definitely something I wouldn't do. Speech was one of my least favorite courses just because the class required speaking in front of other people. I could imagine the result with me trying to do play-by-play. Visualizing the horror of long stretches of dead air. :) It was nice to have the video feed. Would have been nice to come out on top in the game. Sent from my Android device using Tapatalk 2 Quote
CoachPace Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Then I stand corrected sir haha dang they are up to 10k I thought they only had about 8k. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
badndn Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 So I guess UIW has debunked PK's theory on playing strong non-conference opponents. Looks like UIW built up some confidence in beating up all those DII, DIII and NAIA schools and have now shown well at 4-2 in SLC play. All the while LU gets pummled knightly and confidence allong with crowd support are at an all time low...Good strategy! Quote
LUSportsFan Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 In defense of Coach Knight, I like limiting the schedule to D-I competition. I just wish the results were a little better. Once it does get better, there should be benefits like higher RPI which in turn might keep us out of a "play-in" game WHEN we get back to the NCAA tournament again. Quote

Play Duke or Abilene Christian it doesn't matter...neither makes us any better or worse. We are who we are...awful Quote
