Just look for LU to stay in the SLC to avoid any future disappointment. It's sounded like we haven't been engaged since the beginning and now it looks like they are looking in other directions. WE're gonna be Southland for life.

Man I hope your wrong.

I'd love to be wrong but what has happened to prove otherwise? Now we hear rumors of the WAC questioning a couple other schools. If we were on their radar I think it wouldve already happeneda nd some news wouldve leaked on the Lamar end. Thats just my opinion. I dont feel good about it.

I understand that you’re not trying to get your hopes up to high but things are looking pretty good for the LU right now. I knew that the WAC really was looking primarily for football members but Seattle is a pretty good add. LU would add stability to the WAC football wise…

Willie Fritz (SHSU head football coach) talks about FBS:

When asked about our upcoming game against New Mexico Willie Fritz says that, “We have aspirations of moving up to FBS affiliation that’s something that is going to happen with Sam Houston in the next few years it will be a very good test for us.” (Look at around 28:32)

Here is the link:

My personal opinion: I don’t think we will be getting in this round but I’m ok with building the proper infrastructure for the future. These next 3-5 years will be crucial in getting our ducks in a row. I don't really care as long as we actually do jump to FBS and are competitive once we get there.

Another update from Jack over at bobcatreport.com. Lamar and Seattle were the main schools that the WAC discussed today in Phoenix. He also said Utah Valley was brought up too. Looks like Lamar and Seattle are still the favorites and I hope they get invited. Here's how the conference would look:

East:

La Tech

Texas State

UTSA

LU

Denver (basketball)

West:

SJSU

Idaho

NMSU

Utah State

Seattle (basketball)

Not a bad setup if you ask me.

Good to know our name is still being thrown out there. If jack said it I don't doubt it. Should be an interesting week.

I think someone said on the WAC board that after these meetings this week then the schools will vote next month. My guess is if Lamar and/or Seattle get invited it'll be in June, right before the July 1st deadline.

I don't doubt that it will be very close to the deadline. The WAC is going to wait to the last minute to make sure something else doesn't pan out. LU is option Z.

So I guess we all can speculate until the 1st of July now. I think this thread will never end, but I do like the proposed allignment.

by the way, If Lamar announces it is going to the WAC or SB prior to this year's FB season opener, I pledge an additional $1000 donation to the athletic dept.

Per BobcatReport.com

No presidents are present at the WAC meeting in Arizona, only AD's. This means that expansion votes will not be held until next months meeting. Also, any school that is to receive an invite must get 3/4ths approval from the board of directors. This means 4 out of the 5 votes.

4 out of 5 votes? Dang that’s tough! Seattle is the only school that I believe is a slam dunk pick. They wanted to get into the WAC in November but didn’t have the votes. They are in a major city and have the most potential out of any of the candidates. They have one heck of a basketball program! Though they didn’t have the votes last time it’s hard to count against them this time. The WAC still needs a football school. Will they add LU? Only time will tell… One thing is for sure, that is, if you aren’t a slam dunk pick you aren’t getting in… (None of the newcomers get a vote)

By the way I hope you guys get in this round. Even if LU doesn’t get into the WAC this round you will still have the opportunity to go FBS in the next wave of expansion which will happen really soon. Perhaps that’s the reason why SHSU’s AD has been so confident we will land somewhere. Jack of bobcatreport said that the PAC 12 commissioner said that he expects another wave of expansion in about 2 years.

Thanks, I hope we get in too. I think LU and SHSU both have a very good shot at the next roud of expansion. I just don't know when that is. As long as the Texas population continues to grow and the economy demands more college graduates our schools will continue to thrive. It would be awesome for the TSUS to have all three of us in FBS, it will immediately elevate the enitre system.

I think LU gets in if the current schools in the WAC feel that they have to get to 8 football schools by 2012. Also, I would think Seattle and LU would be a package deal, to get the conference to a 8/10 setup instead of 7/8 or 7/9.

I don’t see anything that would indicate a package deal with Seattle and LU.

I think the NCAA is close to requiring conferences to have a minimum of 8 in football to get multiple bowl berths. And, to be honest, for the non-BCS conference to stay viable in football, they'll need as many bowl berths as they can get.

Lamar not interested in the WAC?

Western Athletic Conference athletic directors finished up annual

meetings in Arizona this week. The main topic was league expansion.

"The WAC committee members did meet this week and reviewed future membership models for the WAC, however, I am not at liberty to provide any further information," Commission Karl Benson told TnT Sports.

I wonder is he "not at liberty" or does he simply not have any information. Our sources are telling me that no school in the Big Sky is interested in moving to the WAC.

That goes the same for the Sun Belt Conference as well as Lamar and Sam Houston State. All could be considered potential growth areas for WAC expansion.

"We all know it's not a good situation but we have to continue to

push on," says a member of the WAC expansion committee who asked not to be identified.

Hmm, conflicting reports. It's all going to come down to June anyways. I have suspected for the past month or so that we might have to wait that long.

I have some emails out right now. If I can confirm anything I'll let you guys know.

I posted this over on bobcatreport.com (yes, my alter ego is centexguy) and an Idaho Vandals fans posted a message saying that KIDO radio is anti-WAC so take what they say with a bag of salt.

I hope they are right about this because it would be very disappointing if it is true.

June 14 is the date the WAC will reveal expansion candidates:

The Western Athletic Conference will reveal any potential expansion plans on June 14, league commissioner Karl Benson said Thursday.

Benson unveiled a variety of potential membership options to eight athletic directors of the league's current and future schools earlier this week in Scottsdale, Ariz. He and UTSA athletic director Lynn Hickey refused to discuss specific models or potential targets.

“We looked at a variety of different schools,” Hickey said. “There are groups of schools that are non-football, and some potential football.”

Benson recently told a Louisiana radio station that four schools were ready to accept invitations. Though he said that “sounds about right,” he wouldn't say if those were football-playing schools.
