coachacola Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Lamar's first line of defense has two very important sets of cleats to fill for the 2014 season. Gone from the Cardinals are Jesse Dickson and Mark Murrill, who combined to earn eight letters while they were at Lamar. Dickson earned Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First-team All-SLC honors as a senior and Murrill finished his career with 21.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Now, Cardinals defensive line coach Carey Bailey is faced with the task of finding the right mixture of veterans and youngsters to contribute in Lamar's 3-4 defense. http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/lamar/article/LU-defense-is-good-mix-of-young-veteran-players-5710512.php?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 This will be the key to the season. If the defense can rise to the level of last year or better, then the offense (if the OL performs well) will have a really good year!! Quote

I'm also interested to see how McGallion handles the DC duties with the loss of Bradley. Quote
Card Nation Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Agreed. Alot of pressure on McGallion given the changes in the asistant coaches he is working with and also considering changes in player personnel. The cards appear to stacked up against him, no pun intended. Just need defenders to step up and make plays....... Saturday will tell us alot I think. Quote

I think he has a good bunch of athletes to work with but they're just inexperienced. If they can get some experience and remain confident I think they have a shot at being a decent defense. Quote
