Xavier Bethany spent most of the 2013 season standing on the sidelines.

 

The Lamar safety watched as Branden Thomas pulled down an interception and blocked an extra point against Central Arkansas. Bethany witnessed Tyrus McGlothen return an interception 56 yards for a score against Nicholls State. He also was there when Nashon Davis recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown against rival Stephen F. Austin.

 

As he watched Lamar's vaunted senior class of defensive backs make play after play, Bethany took plenty of notes.
