Big T Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 As for the Wildcatters, they did not fail here in Beaumont. Ford Park did and the city was not able to come to a contract deal with the management of the Wildcatters but they averaged around 2,500-3,000 fans per game. As for the contract issues, the Wildcatters wanted the same contract and because of the success of the team and the fact that it was a good deal for the Catters and not the city and Ford Park, they were not willing to give them the same deal. It came to a stand still and they left. It wasn't because the fans did not show up. How do I know all of this? I work at FP. Quote

In fact the Beaumont Enterprise did a big article on this if I remember right. Quote
coachacola Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Hurricane Rita also hit when the Wildcatters were in Beaumont. Didn't that wipe out a whole season? Quote
puddin tane Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 When Kruk played here, you could tell that he was something special..fun to watch The bullfrogs were a joke Now, back to topic....Woodard resign yet? Quote
saltine Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 how much longer does he get? UTSA started football or played their first season in 2011, and you see the product they have fielded. now look at lamar, and you tell me how much they have progressed in their short history? Quote
LAZEEK Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Here is my two cents........I support Ray. I think he has done a pretty good job of recruiting. I think that he lets his offensive coordinator (Kueck) make too many decisions. Kueck is the biggest problem. However, it is Ray's fault that he has kept Kueck this long. IMO the Cardinals need to win 8 games for Ray to be completely safe, 7 and he is most likely safe, but 6 wins and he and the entire staff will be gone. There are lots of good coaches on the staff!!! I also think that LU needs to beat either SELA or McNeese. This week scares me a little at ACU also. If LU loses in Abilene then it is gonna be a long rest of the year. I hope that the Cardinals prove all of us wrong, and finish the season on a long winning streak, and beat SELA and McNeese!!! Quote
Pirate88 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Why are we happy with 8 wins after 5 years playing and 7 years on the job? We should be winning the SLC and advancing in the playoffs. With the cupcake schedule Woodard had and the favorable SLC schedule this year, this team should win 7 to 8 with no problem. But I don't think winning is everything. How many season ticket holders feel they are getting the bang for their bucks with Tx College and Miss College on the schedule? Attendence is dwelling and all the excitiment is gone from the program. This program needs a shot in the arm and only a change in the coaching will do it. Woodard is getting to comfortable and not wanting to move forward. Quote
Cardfan2010 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I didn't like the idea of bringing a HC in from the JC ranks much less HS! Sounds like a huge jump going from HS to DI FCS. Woodard done an OK job for someone coming in from a JC. But is just OK what we're looking for? Quote
SportsGuy Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I think we need to take a page out of Sam Houston (before Keeler) and SELA's book and hire a successful Division II head coach. The jump from DII to FCS isn't as big of a jump as FCS to FBS in my opinion (ask Colorado Pueblo State). Either that, or we try to steal a successful HC from the FCS ranks. SFA was able to snag a coach from within our own league. Lamar seems to have more money than any other school in the conference, that should help. We have great facilities and players who can help a new HC be competitive in his first season. It's a much more attractive job than it was in 2008 and we have Ray Woodard to thank for that. Quote
LUFAN Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I want Dan Hawkins type coach.. dude won at boise st... and then struggled at colorado... but I think he would be great again in the FCS. Quote

LUSportsFan Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Whether it is the same staff or a new staff, I just hope we learned the lesson of not driving down the field only to run 3 successive plays up the middle for little or no gain and settling for a field goal attempt. I've already seen enough of that to last a lifetime. Quote
Lamarcard81 Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I have felt we have made progress each year until now. I am very disappointed in our play this weekend and the fact that we seem to quit and let the score get out of hand. If we lose in Abilene, the year is shot and the crowd is gone for the year. I have supported Ray but if we lose in Abilene I think Ray has taken us as far as he can. Quote
saltine Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 i dont know what you people are smoking, but to even pretend that woodard has taken this program anywhere other then the outhouse is absurd. keep drinking the kool-aid i guess. smh Quote

lamar1 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 John Wristen I have to laugh at people on here that bring up HS coaches. Really! Medicore coaches at very mediocre golden triangle programs Half to stop thinking of LU as High School 2.0 Quote

thatguy Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 This is comedy! who do you people think you are....NOTRE DAME. This program is 5 years old!!! Let me say that again...5 YEARS OLD. Is it where it could be...nope. is it where it should be...yep. You could have Knute Rockne and it would still be a 5year program. oh and you cant compare UTSA to Lamar. Coker tried to recruit my lil cousin (who went to Oklahoma...hint-hint) from the Golden T. and the sell to those kids was playing Division I football. Yall are a new Division I-AA school.....in THE LEAST EDUCATED CITY IN AMERICA.......and it shows. hahahahaha! Quote

Why should a 5 year program be stagnating instead of progressing? The point about UTSA is that they keep improving every year and not just tiny steps. And your comment about "the least educated city in america", you just proved you belong in that group. Quote
thatguy Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Laughable.....I just looked up the all-time records for Lamar Football. Again....Who do you guys think you are? And I looked up the salaries for the football coaching staff.....Who are you going to get for those prices? thanks for the Laugh fella!!! Quote
CS Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 It's possible to have a negative opinion without sounding like a 5 year old "fella". The fact of the matter is, Lamar should be farther along than they are at this point. 5 years in plenty of time to make strides, especially with the talent in this area. We need more imagination on offense, we need to solidify special teams, and we need to figure out better ways to play defense. This current staff is seemingly going backwards and using smoke and mirrors with blowout wins against weak opponents that no one has ever heard of. Have an opinion, stick by it, but don't be a douchebag. The people on this board will hate you without you having to be that big of an idiot. Quote
thatguy Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 CS....I do apologize. Please forgive me Madam. I did not mean to offend any of the women on this message board. I was under the impression that I was giving my opinion to a group of gentlemen. Again, I do apologize! It was not my intent to rouse your sensitivities, but to give my opinion based upon the facts as they have been presented to me. Sorry Ma'am! Quote
cardinal Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 You people take the wrong line of argumentation - maybe I should have asked, rather than giving my own opinion. So what is it then? Why does everything fail in Beaumont? I posted this in another forum - can't deny the facts! Lamar University Football - FAILED (once already) Texas Wildcatters (Hockey) - FAILED Beaumont Bullfrogs (Baseball) - FAILED Beaumont Golden Gators (Baseball) - FAILED even with Future Major League Baseball players John Kruk, Roberto Alomar, Joey Cora, Ozzie Guillén, Sandy Alomar, Jr., Shane Mack, andBenito Santiago all played at one time for the Golden Gators Southeast Texas Mavericks (Basketball) - FAILED Texas Strikers (Soccer) - FAILED Texas Drillers (Football) - FAILED What professional sport has succeeded in Huntsville? Lake Charles? Nacogdoches? Houma? Thibodeaux? Natchitoches? Conway Arkansas? It is such a stupid argument. We only have 110,000 people. It's just not large enough to support a professional sport. But it is a MUCH better place to live than the cities above. And we should easily be able to recruit against any of them. Quote
cardinal Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 yes, that's why, because it's on the list....but this I'll never understand - I was there every chance I got and did see all of these players play before they made a name for themselves...was a real enjoyable time for me and the family. Beaumont Golden Gators (Baseball) - FAILED even with Future Major League Baseball players John Kruk, Roberto Alomar, Joey Cora, Ozzie Guillén, Sandy Alomar, Jr., Shane Mack, andBenito Santiago all played at one time for the Golden Gators I looked into some other similar areas with minor league baseball - best compared to Mobile, AL with an metro population of 415K whereas Beaumont's metro is 385K...Midland however makes it work with only 136K.... All the reasons or excuses in the world does not explain why the Golden Triangle can't support anything. Everyone has their reasons on why not rather than banning together and supporting "something" in Beaumont! So Midland has a great FCS or FBS football program? The university there escapes me. Please enlighten me? Quote

Go to college, go into 100k+ debt, get a 30,000-40,000 year salary and you are awesome. Graduate high school, go get a blue collar job making 40k, 50k, 60k+ and you are an idiot and the city you live in must be crap? Makes you wonder, who really are the smart ones? Oh, or you can get you a journalism degree and go work for some liberal freak magazine and write stupid articles about cities that you have no clue about...but, you are great because you have that college degree!!
