Jannika John joins Nikita Lis and Dominique Edwards as SLC Athlete of the Week in their respective sports.

Lamar track and field runner Jannika John is the third Cardinal from Big Red to be named as a Southland Conference Athlete of the Week since Monday when the league office announced on Wednesday she garnered the honor after her impressive mile run at the Texas A&M 13-Team Invitational.

 

John set a meet record of 4:46.75 in the first mile run of her career at Lamar, which claimed second place all-time in the LU record books. The closest finisher to her at the meet was more than 20 seconds behind (5:07.80).
