Dracula
During the game Kendrick King went in motion, took the handoff from Harrington, and scored. That's what speed can do for you. However, the pass option was off the table with Harrington there. In my opinion, Case Robinson would be a better fit.

If the kid is good, you'd burn a redshirt just to have him run the wildcat 2 or 3 times a game?
dirtybird
Save the red shirt, trust me it will pay off in the long run.
Dracula
Then take your pick of the other QB's, but Harrington running the wildcat absolutely makes it one dimensional. Try running the Harrington wildcat against Central Arkansas and you'll be lucky to make the line of scrimmage. http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fcs/current/team/
KABrother88
The wildcat isn't meant for a QB to be on the field. The whole purpose is to replace the QB with an extra blocker and play smash mouth football. I thought the play call with King was really good...you take the QB out of the equation and immediately the defense is even more keyed in on Kade...then you hand it off to a speedy WR on a jet sweep...untouched into the endzone (also had great perimeter blocking on the play). That same playcall burned us against Northwestern St. last season as there was a fumble at the mesh point. Down by 13 we were inside the 5 looking to make it a 1 score game early in the 4th. The fumble was returned 95 yards for a score to put the Demons up 20 and essentially seal the game. If you are going to run the wildcat with a QB it has to be a bulldozer type guy. Oklahoma did that a few years ago with Blake Bell in for Landry Jones (called it the Belldozer) and Texas is currently utilizing Tyrone Swoops in this fashion in their 18 wheeler package. Lamar doesn't have a guy like that. At this point of the season I see no reason to burn Robinson's RS. It looks like both he and Morse with take one this year. With that and Jack Dallas potentially coming in next summer, and if Brett Cox gets eligible again that gives 4 guys who should be Cards for a the next 4-6 years. The 3 spots I always liked to see RS are OL, DL, and QB. Most Freshman OL are not ready for the physicality of playing in the trenches. Bret Treadway is a perfect example of the benefits of a RS. Came in a a 6'3" ish 250 lbs guy who wasn't ready and turned into an All-American. I like to see DL RS for the same reason but due to depth issues we've had to play the them in the past including this year. QBs need time to develop as a passer typically as well as time to become leaders of the team. There aren't too many 18 year old kids who can walk into a huddle and display that leadership needed to upperclassmen who have been through the rigors of a season.
