Men's Basketball is pretty good so far

Can we talk about the LU basketball Cards for just a sec? Nothing deep or earth shattering but so far the Cards are 7-5 on the season and they have recorded some pretty nice wins so far. Think about it, the have wins against FBS schools like Oregon State and UT-San Antonio. They have nice wins over Prairie View A&M and they gave Fresno State a run for their money. The Cards ended up losing by 19 but the game was closer than that most of the way. A 19-5 run in the first half by Fresno so of put the game away for them but Lamar pulled to within 4 with 8 minutes left before they finally succumbed to the Bulldogs. Is this where you thought we'd be in Tic Price's second season, his first with some of his own recruits on the floor. He's got the Cards 2 games over .500 with their final non-conference game coming up next week in a game that Lamar should win against Houston Tillotson. I haven't made any games yet but I plan to go watch that game as it's the final tune up for SLC play. January 2nd is when the real season begins and I look forward to the start of conference games. The Cards have played some crème puffs but they have also played a challenging set of games as well that will serve them well heading into conference.

The Cards overall shooting % is .448 which isn't bad and their % from 3 point land is a very respectable .366. Colton Weisbrod (14.3 PPG), Nick Garth (12.4 PPG) and Joey Frenchwood (9.1 PPG) are leading the Cards in scoring as Lamar is averaging 80.67 PPG vs just 71.92 being allowed to opponents. I know it's hard to get fired up about basketball before the first of the year because football dominates the landscape in both college and in the pros. Aside from the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl after January 1st belongs to basketball. It's when the NBA starts heating up and college basketball begins the trek to March Madness because conference play begins, for the most part, after New Year's.

Houston-Tillotson is Dec 29 at the Montagne and they begin conference Jan 2 against Central Arkansas in Conway, Ark. I hope to see a bunch of people at the Montagne next Thursday to support the Cards. I see by the Cards website they are averaging around 1600 people per game. I'll offer a challenge to all the Cards fans out there to get out and top 2K next week. This team deserves our support and I'll be there if you will.

A lot of people watch the games on either ESPN 3 or the Big Red Insider Network. I do, because i live in Houston. They would most likey have bigger turnouts if people couldnt watch the game from the comfort of their homes. They have a pretty good, young team, I think. Everyone is coming back except for two players next year. Owens and Davis are Seniors.

I know I'm not supposed to be a fair weather fan but I am. I had season tickets for about 20 years and just couldn't stomach the poor play and poor coaching anymore. Sorry, I won't be going until they start winning in conference.
