When is FB schedule released?

I know @ North Texas

Is other non-conference game the hold up?

My understanding is yes that is the current hold up. I don't know if it has already been arranged and just not released but as of about a month ago it still hadn't been locked down. This is what we have so far.

9/2 - at North Texas

9/9 - Open

9/16 - at Northwestern St.

9/23 - at Southeastern Louisiana

9/30 - vs Nicholls St.

10/7 - Open

10/14 - at Incarnate Word

10/21 - at Sam Houston St.

10/28 - vs SFA

11/4 - vs Central Arkansas

11/11 - at Houston Baptist

11/18 - vs McNeese St.

The 2nd non conference game will be either 9/9 or 10/7. My guess is it is taking this long due to trying to find someone to come to Beaumont. At the moment there are only 4 home games on the schedule.

Maybe the 2018 schedule will drop the lower division school as on opponent as with five conference home games the Cards could go play another FCS school with a home and home deal which then would make for five home games in 2019. While it might be nice to split the two non-conference games with a mostly guaranteed loss for a money game and a mostly guaranteed win against a D-2 or lower school, I think playing another FCS school would help the Cards prepare for conference and help potentially get an at large berth in the playoffs assuming Lamar would be competitive or even win that game. Also might help with attendance.

i have no problem with a D2. FBS gives us a game, we give D2 a game. was hoping for more than Odessa-Permian, tho. at least its not Baconne or Texas College.

We seemingly run into this problem every year. Can't find a final OOC. game because we need/want 1 more at home and so does everyone else. We got lucky last year with CCU. Hopefully there are already discussions going on for the final OOC game for next year. UT-PB will probably be on par with Bacone (probably not as bad as Texas College though) so don't expect too much from the game. Last season they lost all 9 conference games by an average margin of 38 points (average score of 57-19). Closest game was a 10 point loss to Oklahoma Panhandle State. They only kept 1 team below 48 and gave up 68+ 3 times

I don't see why we don't schedule whatever southland school that we don't play for the two year cycle.do a home and home.we could have played sfa the last 2 years and now get Abilene Christian to play us.

I've always felt we could do something with SWAC and it appeared a couple seasons ago that was something being looked into. We played Prairie View at home in 2012 then had a home and home with Grambling in 2013 & 2014. In 2015 when the SLC moved to a 9 game schedule combined with currently being in an 11 game per year cycle per FCS rules, it really makes scheduling difficult. You need that 1 FBS money game to keep the program afloat so your options become limited with only 2 open weeks left, 1 of which must be used as a bye. The SWAC has many schools in range that wouldn't extend the budget too far. 8 of their 10 schools are located closer that our outer most SLC foe (Abilene Christian). 4 of them are within 250 miles and 2 of them are even half of that.

swac..no thanks..dirty play, hurt Harrington's knee vs Grambling...PView fans started a fight..their own dude had to pepper spray em.

............Grambling woulda beat the piss out of us last year...........

I'm talking in terms of logistics. I would rather play a SWAC team every year as our 2nd OOC game then the Bacone's or Texas Colleges we've grown accustomed to. Maybe that will be a thing of the past with a new coach but idk how much say so he has in that matter.

And saying Grambling would have beat the piss out of us last year isn't saying much...basically means they would have been a middle of the road SLC team...

Whether the non-conference games include a D-2 or lower school in the mix may have a lot to do with the stability of the coaching staff and their relationship with the fan base. If the fan base is about win-loss record predominantly then the staff probably needs a D-2 or lower school to balance the most likely loss to the FBS school. However if the staff is on solid footing with the base then the second non-conference game against another FCS school or even another FBS school is probably a benefit in preparing the team for a stiffer conference schedule provided the team is consistently at the top of the conference standings. Personally I would rather have a good competitive game whether at home or on the road as opposed to a probable blow out win that gets the fans hopes up prior to conference play.
