PeckEm
Ok, after the Cowboys and Steelers joined in the fray and sent my sports fan life to depths I haven't seen in a while (note, I LOVE to hate the Cowboys and Steelers but I've always kind of considered them both the gold standard of the NFL/American sports....shhh don't tell anyone I said that, I'll SWEAR I NEVER spoke those words), I started thinking where that disappointment ranked in my overall Greatest Losses (in the olden days we only had to worry about wins and losses, not friggin politics) of my sports fan life. So here are the contenders: Oilers blowing the lead to Buffalo (with, I think, Frank Reich at the helm?) Oilers loss to the Steelers in playoffs, Renfro catch called incomplete. LU baseball loss in regionals to UT, aka Bates was friggin out!!! LU basketball loss in sweet 16 (getting stomped by LSU I believe) LU basketball loss to Villanova...how the hell did Sewell's shot not fall??!! Basketball home court win streak ended by that no good Karl Malone and company!! There are some others that vaguely stick in my mind, something to do with Thomas Jefferson football? And maybe French High, bittersweet tie? PNG losing to Stephenville? Note, with high school sports I am a regional fan. My high school was Kelly, college LU, and pro teams Oilers and Astros...so there's been a LOT of heartbreak. Anyone have any games to add that I'm forgetting? For you half glass full guys we could add big wins...beating Baylor, beating McNeese (football, first year back wasn't it?) puddin tane
wins? LU- McNeese last game before they dropped football....year before was a heartbreaker there was one game against Arkie St. back in the day...kinda like that Hou-Buf collapse, cant remember exactly '91 Lady Cards And beating the fricking Slumberjacks a few years back, when LU had to kick 2 field goals, cuz their band was playing when he made the first one.... KABrother88
Game 5 of the 2005 NLCS...If you aren’t sure what game that was just simply put it as Pujols vs Lidge. Although Houston won the next game in St Louis to move on to the World Series that moment of disappointment is still seared into my mind. My step dad had a co-worker at the game that was calling us between each inning...you couldn’t hear anything he said because the place was so damn loud but we did make out that the TV was about a batter behind where the live action was. When Edmonds came up ahead of Pujols my step dad started saying something wasn’t right...why hasn’t he called? When he got on you kinda knew something bad was about to happen with Pujols at the plate. When the co-worker finally called back in the middle of the 9th we thought he had left the game because it was so quiet in the background. Wasn't it LSU that we stomped at home? Some scheduling conflict so they had to come to the Montagne. Place was ROCKIN!!
