LU1991
Below is Northwesterns previous W/L 's. Looks like a tough lost against McNeese. They went for two point conversions twice and failed both times and had 4 turnovers including the McNeese interception for a touchdown in the 4th quarter. Thu, Sept 1 vsDelta State W24-23 1-0 (0-0) Sat, Sept 10 @#2 LSU L49-3 1-1 (0-0) Sat, Sept 17 @Southern Methodist L40-7 1-2 (0-0) Sat, Sept 24 @Nicholls State W34-0 2-2 (1-0) Sat, Oct 1 vsMcNeese State L20-18 2-3 (1-1)
coachacola
They are a much tougher defensive team than SLU, probably comparable to South Alabama. What's nice is that the offense is healthy and a lot better now, plus this is a home game which is probably going to be close to a sellout. I like Lamar's chances a whole lot better now than a few weeks ago.
lu cards
this game will tell us a lot.win and we could be in the thick of the slc race.feel much better than i did 2 weeks ago.i think it will be a good game.
LU1991
McNeese did get 287 yards rushing against Northwestern. We should be able to do something with our running game and open up our receivers down the field. I'm liking our chances! I couldn't say that two weeks ago. Big T
I wathched NSU's QB pick apart Nichols States defense last week so i'm a little worried about them being able to do the same against us. How ever their defense, though they shut out Nichols, didn't impress me much. Nichols offense was horrible and NSU got lucky several times on dropped passes and thr RB tripping and falling down so i'm not worried about Lamars ability to score on them. I was on the sidelines taking pictures and somehow I missed all those rushing yards. You better recheck those stats. The Demon defense is very tough and very fast. Should be a good game. Doc The box score only shows 78 yards rushing for McNeese, but 217 passing yards. Northwestern threw 3 INTs and 1 fumble so if Lamar can create some turnovers then I like Lamar's chances. OOPS I was looking at the McNeese vs SLE box score...my bad. The Cowboys did only have 78yds rushing but 217 passing yds.
TBonesLU
Again, our OL has some weight on some of the McNeese linemen. Therefore, maybe we can have a little more success running the ball than they did. Who knows?

I think one of our problems was that they knew Riley Dodge was out early in the week and they knew that we are down to a true freshman Qb backing up Cody Stroud. By knowing that, they already knew that Cody wasn't much of a running threat (like Riley) plus we didn't want him running the ball and getting hurt. That took away a lot of our gameplan and made us a lot more coservative. No read option plays where the Qb would keep the ball plus no Qb draws, etc. Plus, we didn't try to throw deep very often. Another thing they did, from what I heard, was that we planned to see a lot of blitzing and man to man defense. They totally changed up and went zone with little blitzing. Cody does not have that much experience against zone teams and I think he was a little confused. I think, with you mobile Qb's, you will present some more problems for the Northwestern St. defense. But they did look very good against us. Definitely one of the fastest defenses we have faced this year. Might be the best and that includes Kansas. Another factor that could have hurt. We had about three OL go down at some points in the game. Nothing serious from what I hear but we are thin there. That definitely didn't help our running game. Guest bigred360
I heard something in the prior post that is similar to what I read after Lamar almost beat McNeese last year. If the Demons didn't have 4 TO's that might have been a different game. Then there is no way the Demon's defense is faster than Kansas's. I like our chances and will be there Saturday. BTW, there are a lot of plays in the playbook that aren't called because the coaching staff doesn't want to get Bevil hurt.
McNeese72
Then there is no way the Demon's defense is faster than Kansas's. Well, I said better not faster. I saw both of them from the sidelines taking pictures and from what I saw, the Demon defense looked better against us than the Jayhawks did. Guest bigred360
Well this tells me a different story. Plus, you had your starting QB in for both games. I bet KU is a lot better on defense now. Also, Northwestern had more game film on McNeese than Kansas did. Finally, with such a large lead by Kansas you probably saw some 2nd team defensive players. http://www.kuathletics.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2011-2012/game01.html

So the lead was never really big. Doc
Guest CardinalClaw
Hey 72 when you say their defense is fast do you mean the entire D or just the front 7?
05BigRed
i think the game is going to come down to defense and special teams...i believe we can have a decent running game and at least GOOD if not GREAT passing game to score some points...if our defense can limit the big plays and come up with a few stops we give ourselves a great chance to win...but, if we(special teams) let them start every drive off at the 40 yard line, we are gonna struggle to keep up...i think this is going to be critical in the game... McNeese72
Hey 72 when you say their defense is fast do you mean the entire D or just the front 7? Can't say for sure because I was looking through a camera lens taking pictures on the sideline the whole game. They just beat us to the edge all night which usually doesn't happen. Don't know about the secondary in pass coverage. I probably can say more when I watch the replay tonight. Doc
Mr.KnowItAll
Should be a lower scoring game than last week. They should have gone into overtime at least with McNeese but a questionable two point decision cost them that chance. It should be a much lower scoring game than last week considering their defense is better and their offense is worse IMO. The biggest key to this game is consistancy at quarterback. We need Bevil to play like the SLU game every week. He can't come out this week and have 3 picks. He has shown so many flashes but hasn't been consistant. If he can be consistant, then we as a team will be in the thick of the conference race.
Mr.KnowItAll
Also want to add, Bevil running the ball last week was crucial. Would love to continue to see well read and excuted zone option plays with him. He also had to keep a lot of plays alive with his feet. I would like to see even more play action passes to help slow down the pass rush against the Demons.

TBonesLU
I haven't heard anything about their WR corps. Any info on them? With how hyped up SELA's receivers were, I'm glad we contained them as much as we did. I'm not saying we were perfect, but Brandon Collins was on the team with Texas that went to the Rose Bowl. He should've ran all over us, but he didn't.

He should've ran all over us, but he didn't. I'm really concerned about our defense still. We had some things go our way like turnovers and fumbles, granted our offense was on fire if our defense can't get off the field against the Demons it could be bad. I just hope we don't let the run into the endzone untouched. That happened once with the Lions in the first quarter. Does anyone know much about their offense? I really don't know much about this NWST team except they should have beat McNeese. Knowing that this will be a good game to measure our chances against the Pokes at the end of the season.
