McNeese HC Lance Guidry

Featured Replies

McNeese will not renew the contract of HC Lance Guidry after 3 years. In that time he went 21-12 going 6-5 in 2016 & 2018 with a 9-2 mark in 2017 but was a noticeable snub in the FCS playoffs. This news makes the upcoming final recruiting push so much more important as Lamar will have all the momentum in the world. Combine this with SFA more than likely having a new staff coming in, SHSU coming off a down year and Lamar coming off of an FCS playoff appearance, the door is open for Lamar to potentially dominate the area in recruiting.
he would make a nice assistant coach here in beaumont!!

I think Coach Guidry got a raw deal from McNeese. He has been head coach for only 3 years and has done fairly well. Did not make the playoffs last year, but was 9-2, and he doesn't control the selection committee. He had a really good team this year but ran into injuries of some key players. I am not a McNeese fan by any stretch of the imagination, but to dump him based on his record is not right. Unless there are other issues with his program that is not public. Plus he is a homegrown Cowgirl. Doesn't make sense. Unless they really really hate losing to Lamar.

Not giving him a fair deal will hurt them hiring another good coach, and I'm sure that guy will want a 5 year deal, if the leash in Lake Chuck is going to be that short.

"McNeese, where 2nd rate is 1st class."

I wonder, if there will be any coaching vacancies, at Lamar, next year? Please, someone tie Coach Bliel to the goal post. Can't afford to lose him. Adding Lance Guidry to the staff, even if for only a year, would be a positive thing on so many levels especially recruiting in SW Louisana.

Lake Chuck, that's funny.

Thought I would try and guess who McNeese may hire for their new coach:

1. Urban Meyer (Ohio State) - Rumors are he is gone unless he beats Michigan.

2. Jason Garrett (Dallas Cowboys) - already has a bunch of “Cowboys “ shirts.

3. Kliff Kingsbury (Texas Tech) - big win over Lamar impressed McNeese.

4. Ray Woodard - has childhood ties to Lake Chuck.

5. Les Miles - McNeese is a better program than Kansas.

6. Lance Edwards (KBMT) - seems to think he knows everything about football.

7. Nick Saban (Alabama) - is always on everyone’s list, but probably won’t take it since just opened another Mercedes dealership in the Birmingham area.

8. K. Keeler (SHSU) - mists KatFans want to see him go.

9. Jeff Byrd (SFA) - did not get the head job for the Lumberjacks.

10. Henry Winkler - did a hell of a job coaching Bobby Bouchette.

Coach Klein scares me the most. Just getting a LB makes the team break an 0-forever drought and win the Bourbon Bowl. Just think what would have happened if it was a QB or RB...

Looks like McNeese is set to hire Sterlin Gilbert as their new HC. He was OC for Charlie Strong at Texas in 2016 then followed Strong to South Florida after he was fired at Texas. He’s a native of San Angelo and has coached at the HS level in Texas too so it will be interesting to see what he does in recruiting.

Sterlin Gilbert is a done deal at McNeese. An impressive hire, but has never been a head coach before. Remind you of someone else?
