lcm2007ms Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Who do y'all see starting at QB for this game? I would hope they will choose Johnson but I'm not so sure. Quote
Guest CardinalClaw Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I hope it is Johnson too but I think it will be Bevil. Quote
Guest LU4LIFE Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 I have to agree with ya'll I would like to see Johnson get the start, but I think you will see Bevil under center to start the game. Quote
coachacola Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 If Bevil does start the game and the offense struggles the I hope that Woodard would switch to Johnson before Central Arkansas builds a big lead. UCA will probably score at least 30 points so the Lamar offense needs to score early and keep the game close in the first half. UCA isn't as good defensively as NW State or Texas State so I think Lamar can win if the offense is clicking. Quote

Guest CardAmbassador Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I'm betting we will see Johnson starting under center on Saturday.;) Feel free to let us in on what you know! :) I'm expecting to see Bevil start the game and if he hasn't scored on his first two drives he will probably be rotated with Johnson and possibly even Prewitt. I think the coaching staff knows it will be important to look competitive for homecoming. No one wants to lose homecoming. I don't know alot about UCA but I am feeling alot better about this game than I was about the TxSt game. The defense has me worried though. Washington was a big loss. Quote

LUSportsFan Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Starting to get into game mode. I hope we can top 15,367 in paid attendance Saturday. Just checked the online ticket sales site. Here's the count of seats available as of this morning. $50.00 Chair back seats (35-50 yd line).................. 45 seats scattered in three sections $25.00 "Red Section Seats (25-35 yd line)................601 seats (in eight sections - Most on East side) $20.00 "Green Section Seats (5-25 yd line)...............402 seats (in six sections - Most on East side) $15.00 "White Section Seats (Endzone to 5 Yd line)......560 seats (in five sections - Most on East side) Based on a rough count, that would leave 1,608 seats available as of this morning. As noted above, there's a pretty good deal on the website of a "Family Pack" of 4 tickets for $40.00. That's not much more than it costs to go to a movie these days and the "goodies" at the PUS concession stand are less expensive than at the theater. Quote
BRI Staff Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 BEUMONT - Lamar University and the University of Central Arkansas will get together in football for the first time Saturday afternoon when the Cardinals will entertain the Bears in their 2011 Homecoming affair. Kickoff is set for 3:05 p.m. in 16,000-seat Provost Umphrey Stadium. Lamar stands at 3-3 on the season after dropping its second straight game, a 46-21 road decision to Texas State this past Saturday night. Meanwhile, coach Clint Conque's Bears defeated McNeese State 21-18 in Conway, Ark., last week to run their winning streak to three games and to improve to 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in the Southland Conference. The Cardinals are 1-1 in the league and in fifth place, while the Bears are tied for second place, one-half game behind leader Sam Houston State, which is 3-0. Freshman quarterback Jeremy Johnson from Silsbee came off the bench Saturday night to spark the Cardinals to two second-half touchdowns against Texas State, but the Bobcats had already gained the upperhand by scoring touchdowns on their first five possessions. Johnson threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to senior slot receiver Marcus Jackson in the third quarter, and he broke a 59-yard scoring scamper in the final period. Also, sophomore running back Caleb Harmon of Port Neches-Groves accounted for Lamar's other score with a 3-yard run for his first collegiate touchdown in the second quarter. Meanwhile, senior quarterback Nathan Dick threw touchdown passes of 81 yards to Dominique Croom and 25 yards to Brett Soft, and linebacker Frank Newsome returned a fumble a school-record 98 yards in UCA's victory over then 17th-ranked McNeese State. The Cowboys outgained the Bears 422-256 in total yards, but the Bears feasted on five turnovers while committing only one giveaway. The Cardinals broke out their best balancing act in last year's homecoming game, accounting for 204 passing yards and a then season-high 147 rushing yards in a hard-fought 14-0 victory over Langston University before a crowd of 17,306, the largest of the season. Quarterback Andre Bevil completed 14 of 25 passes and hooked up with Jackson on two long touchdown passes, while the defense pitched the Cardinals' first shutout since a 41-0 blanking of Sam Houston State in 1989. Jackson got 105 of his 112 receiving yards on his breakaway touchdowns. The first covered 47 yards in the first quarter, and the second was a 58-yard bomb midway in the final period. A couple of strong runs by Octavious Logan got the Cardinals' ground game churning early, and he went on to post a career-best 96 yards on 12 totes. For the record, Lamar is 20-19-1 all-time in homecoming games. The Cardinals posted one six-game winning streak, beginning with a 24-0 blanking of UT Arlington in 1970 and running through a 30-10 trouncing of Southern Illinois University in 1975. The Cardinals also endured one six-game losing streak in homecoming games, beginning when Stephen F. Austin prevailed 13-10 in 1981 and continuing through a 35-10 triumph by Texas A&M-Kingsville in 1986. The Cardinals' greatest Homecoming Day conquering was a 67-19 trouncing of Sul Ross State in 1957, the same season in which coach J.B. Higgins' team posted the school's only undefeated record in football at 8-0-2. LINK: http://www.lamarcardinals.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/101911aaa.html Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Roll Call, who's going to the game what are your plans before and if you want me to drop by your tailgate for pictures just leave me your location in a PM or in this thread. I'll be at this game, I'm driving in Friday Night and heading out early Sunday. I'll probably check out the student tailgating around noon and then head to some sites across the street. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Add two. We'll be driving in from Houston. Quote
lu cards Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 anyone got an update on tickets?weather looks awesome!! Quote
LUSportsFan Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Here's the rough count of remaining tickets that I came up with this afternoon using Lamar's online ticket sales site. $50.00 Chair back seats (35-50 yd line).................. 43 seats scattered in three sections $25.00 "Red Section Seats (25-35 yd line)................550 seats (in eight sections - Most on East side) $20.00 "Green Section Seats (5-25 yd line)...............321 seats (in six sections - Most on East side) $15.00 "White Section Seats (Endzone to 5 Yd line)......390 seats (in five sections - Most on East side) That would leave 1,304 today vs my count yesterday of 1,608. There are some really good seats remaining on the East Side of the stadium especially since it will be a mid-afternoon game on a pretty October day. The red section seats on the East side are mid field 35 and 50 yard lines. The green seats on the East Side are the next sections towards the goal line with the East Side white sections starting at the 25 yard line. Quote
coachacola Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I'll be in town visiting family so I may try to make the game. I won't buy them early so if I go I may be getting SRO tickets. Quote
LU1991 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 We will be there. Tailgating in the same spot and serving a southeast Texas tradition ....red beans w/sausage and rice. Go Cards!!! Quote

coachacola Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Lot's of info in the "In The Cards" blog. On Caleb Harmon: Caleb Harmon will probably get more carries Saturday. The Port Neches-Groves graduate scored his first college touchdown last week. This week, he might be in the starting lineup. On Bevil vs Johnson: Not a week goes by without questions about Andre Bevil. And if Jeremy Johnson will be a starting quarterback. Patience, folks. That, I’m sure, is what the Lamar coaches want many fans to have regarding this topic. But with the way Johnson played last week in the second half — throwing for one touchdown and scoring another one on a long run — patience can run a little thin. Bevil has done little this season have his starting status called into question. And for Johnson, there’s more to making him a starting quarterback than just athletic ability. Will Asim Hicks play Saturday? Lamar might be short another linebacker Saturday if Asim Hicks does not play after being involved in car accident Wednesday afternoon. Hicks was held out of practice Wednesday night and will be evaluated by Lamar trainers before practice today, coach Ray Woodard said. Link: http://blog.beaumontenterprise.com/inthecards/ Quote

Link: http://blog.beaumontenterprise.com/inthecards/ Can we catch a break please? Why is our LB core getting beat down like this? I think the football gods hate Lamar. I'm not trying to be negative but if we keep losing LB's like this each week I'm not too optimistic about the rest of our schedule. We have some guys that can step up but when you're 2nd string becomes your 1st string that means your 3rd string becomes your 2nd string and that's usually guys that are freshmen and a little green. We have TE's coming out our eyeballs, I wonder if we will try to switch some people around to get more talent on the field. Quote
Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 If Octavious Logan is out for the season, why is he still on the depth chart? Quote
Guest bigred360 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 If Octavious Logan is out for the season, why is he still on the depth chart? Nice catch there NOTB as I didn't see that earlier. The kid from PN-G is suppost to start and I would think Hanna and Venson would be the backups. Count 3 more in section W207, row 21, seats, 8, 9, 10. Quote
Guest bigred360 Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 Spoke with someone in the know at Lamar and they are really busy today selling tickets for tomorrow's homecoming game so it should be a sellout by 3:00PM tomorrow. Quote

I know you guys don't agree with me, but really, if you are going to be a championship program, then everything, top to bottom should be efficient and done correctly, including getting something as small as putting out correct information like a depth chart. Do you really think that at Alabama, they would put out a depth chart with a kid who has been injured for several weeks who is out for the year? Now this is something that is easy to do right and you don't have to be an Alabama to get it right. We may not have the 5 star recruits, but if you do the small things right, you are on your way to doing the big things right. I deal with poorly run companies all the time and this type of carelessness plagues them. Just another over the top post by me I guess. Quote
