Guest LU4LIFE Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I saw on KFDM tonight that the athletic complex has been named after an LU donor that donated an undisclosed amount to the capital campaign.( I can't remember the name of the donor) Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Great news, this explains that bump to $87 million in the capital campaign. I bet the donation was around $4 million or so. Quote

They have been great supporters of Lamar. And Silsbee High School. The field house at Tiger Stadium is named after Mrs. Dauphin's husband. She donated $300,000 for the building of this facility. This is great news but I thought Lamar was already at $87 million on the capital campgaign? Well it usually takes a little time for them to announce gifts. Mr. Mrs. Dauphin might have donated the money months back but the paper work might have just been finished. I'm just assuming all of this so it could be on top of the $87 like you suggested. Has anyone seen a news release for this? I can't find one and it seems like it would be big enough news to be in all the local news outlets. Quote
coachacola Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 They donated $200K when the athletic complex was first built and the athletic offices are named after them. Maybe the news was referring to that instead of the whole athletic complex? Quote
sleepy Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Has nothing to do with the 200k donation. That was a couple of years ago. Quote
LU1991 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I saw the same news piece on KFDM but can't find anything else about it. A few years ago the Dauphin foundation gave $200,000 and had an office suite named after them. This is the entire building with an undisclosed amount of money. Quote
coachacola Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 That's great news if it's a brand new donation for the athletic complex. I'm guessing it's at least $1 million, I don't think you can get buildings named after you for less than that. Quote

coachacola Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 It was a $2 million gift. Lamar University President James Simmons dedicated the Dauphin Athletic Complex on campus Wednesday in recognition of a $2 million gift to the university’s Investing in the Future campaign from Charline and Robin Dauphin and in memory of Sidney “Chief” Dauphin. The Dauphin family gift brings LU’s campaign total to $88 million, approaching the $100 million goal. This was the Silsbee family’s second gift to the Investing in the Future campaign. The Dauphin Athletic Complex houses the Dauphin Family Football Office Suite, which recognizes the family’s earlier contribution. Guest bigred360 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Isn't the captial campaign up in 2013? We've got a little over a year to raise $12 million. Thank you to the Dauphin family for their support of Lamar University. Quote

Thank you to the Dauphin family for their support of Lamar University. BR360, I want to say that is right the campaign ends at the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013. It's supposed to be a 5 year campaign. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I bet we hit our mark I bet so too. I hope we don't slow down. They need to do another $100 million campaign for the following 5 years. With the way the state is cutting funding each biennium we're going to need it. Quote
sleepy Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Coach Woodard can be thanked for this one. He was HUGE in this process! Quote
