TexGator
Love this! First, PV fans will travel to Beaumont in droves (plenty live in the Triangle... and even more live in Houston and will drive over for a game to support their team)... filling the coffers. With the long-term view, beating (if not beating up) SWAC schools is the next step in building the program. We're not beating out Texas, TAMU, LSU, and Oklahoma for kids coming out of HS. But, we can make "Compete to start early at Lamar" more appetizing than "Starter once that guy leaves at _________" (insert Houston, Lafayette, UTSA, etc.). That opportunity doesn't become more appetizing until we make "Rotation player at Lamar" more appetizing than "Immediate starter at a SWAC school." So, long story short, we need to play and beat schools like Prairie View to assert or dominance over them. If you're a HS football player east of Downtown Houston, the distance to PVAMU Stadium or Provost Umphrey Stadium is about a 30 minute difference (even less if you're east of the loop) so you're not picking between them based on distance; you're picking what hat you grab based on the program and the university. Beating PV is the way to have kids look at the two and objectively say "Lamar's the better program."

coachacola
If our goal is to beat and out recruit SWAC schools we are setting the bar EXTREMELY low. Maybe people think LU just joined the SWAC, not the WAC.

puddin tane
And yes. It was PV, i think 2012, that had a between their fans. Shit show. Need a your fans behave clause in the contract.
TexGator
If our goal is to beat and out recruit SWAC schools we are setting the bar EXTREMELY low. We're trying to beat them out for the guys who would headline their class... Recruiting goes downhill... Power-5 schools are trying to steal headliners from Group of 5 (if they can't flip from other P5s), Group of 5 steals headliners from FCS... Beating up on PV means that kid who is deciding between staying at QB and playing for them or signing with us and switching to WR or DB is more likely to say "I believe in what Coach Mo is doing. Give me that red jersey." We have 2 winning seasons in the 11 years we've been back. We can't leave any stone unturned.
