Ill add it to this thread too:

LU will still play @ La Tech. The game has just been pushed back to September 7, 2013.

Does that mean we get the $175k this year for them cancelling the game? If so, this is a windfall because we get the cash, a good opponent (ULL) this year and a game at LaTech next year.

Hmmm.. lesson; always listen to the Fish B)

If you'll excuse the wild speculation... (disclaimer)

The Ragin Cajuns are looking for a 12th game (6th home game.) The pay would be comparable to the La. Tech game, and it is an easy drive for Cardinal fans. I have heard that the Cajuns are looking at an out of state FCS opponent because a game tentatively scheduled with Southern fell through.

Probably won't happen, but stranger things have happened. This would be a fun road trip for Cardinal fans as the tailgating over there is legendary. They also averaged about 29K per game last season, so the game day atmosphere is great.

Like I said, this is wild speculation.

Beat the mess out of both ULL and Louisiana Tech!! Neither want to play us, despite the crowd we would bring, and the fact that the revenue would stay in-state. Louisiana schools just don't get the concept of scheduling other in-state schools for revenue.

Because that is not a concept. Scheduling another in-state university, which has no affiliation with the other, doesn't do anything for the education system as a whole. It is honestly no different than Lamar playing McNeese State. Just because of proximity or conference affiliation, there is no direct advantage to scheduling any particular school. Where a university may benefit is scheduling a game within the same university system (UL-L and UL-Monroe or Lamar and Texas State). Keeping the money in-state does nothing unless you are wanting the other university to succeed as well.

Two things were at work here:

1. The Cajuns were in fact negotiating with the Cardinals first. (should they have dropped the Cards so they could play Mcneese?)

2. Mcneese wanted more money; presumably because they would bring a larger crowd. The Cajuns drew an average of 30K per game last season with a stadium capacity of 31.5, so this is a non-factor. After the Cajuns won the Bowl game against San Diego State, one would expect the first home game to be a sell out anyway. (get your tickets early) Why would they pay more to play a school just because they are 30 miles nearer?

This will be a fun event, and I guarantee if Lamar fans come out early, they will be treated very nicely by Cajun fans. The tailgating there is phenomenal.
