Guest CardinalClaw Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I want to get everyone's opinion, with all these changes to the coaching staff what impact will it have on next season? Quote
Mike Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 This goes along with what we've been hearing. It's been speculated and talked about on here about Whitten for weeks. The latest we've heard is Whitten is indeed gone and Woodard has reached out to another former UT connection Tim Nunez for the the OC position. We've heard he's expressed interest and interviewed for the position but there is nothing imminent about to happen, that it was just an interview. If true his OL background can do nothing but help a talented unit that struggled last season. I was told about Oden weeks ago but there's been nothing concrete so we'll check more into that. As always, I have other sources that have stated the only coaching hires would be replacing Reeves/Mayper and adding the new position granted by the University...so we'll see. LU1991 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Whitten has taken his Lamar stickers off his vehicle....could be a sign. The possible new hires look promising. Quote

Honestly, Oden never played up to his potential. He was always getting beat off the line. There were numerous times when his frustration would boil over and he would do something stupid and get a personal foul. Saw him almost get in a fight with someone and then the next play go after his legs and get a penalty for a chop block. Not sad to see him go... but it would have been nice if he would have taken this opportunity and made the best of it. Quote
coachacola Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Interesting that Tim Nunez has his bachelor's and master's degrees from Lamar. From what I've read it doesn't sound like Tim Nunez was much of a OL coach at UT, but since he'll be the OC then that shouldn't matter. Looks like Woodard is going after another highly experienced coach at the FBS level. I'm still excited about the Bill Bradley hire. Lamar made a big step backwards last year in defense as they had one of the worst defenses in all of FCS. They were giving up almost 40 points a game, Woodard had to do something. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I had heard about Oden around the same time as signing day but no one could confirm it. I hate to lose his size but we've brought in other guys that will help us in that department. So far all the coaching changes have been upgrades from the experience stand point, That's something I think is important since Hinshaw was easily our best coordinator since LU's brought back football. Who Dat Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 if oden threw away his likely opportunity then shame on him. he cant live of big brothers money forever and its crazy with the new oline coach we have coming. he would have improved and that line couldve been the strength of the team. as far as nunez goes bring him on coach woodard. if all those guys were good enough for the bigtime ncaa schools and nfl I nkow they are good enough for us. nice job! Guest McneeseKilla Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Whitten has taken his Lamar stickers off his vehicle....could be a sign. The possible new hires look promising. Mcknight too me has the most promise. Having higher level experience doesn't always make a coach better than another, I know a ton of high school coaches that make way better coaches than college guys. So imo I am not sold on the other two rumors who could be coming in. Quote
coachacola Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Oden made 2nd team all-conference last year and he was just a sophomore. Losing him would create a big hole in the offensive line. With a new OL coach he could be really good. Quote
lcm2007ms Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I was told Oden left for personal reasons and there is only a small chance he could be back. Quote

Mike Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I was able to speak to Coach Woodard today for a second and he confirmed to me that Darrell Harris did commit to Lamar. He also told me directly that "he hasn't spoken to Tim Nunez." This falls right in line with what others from Lamar had told me prior to this. We'll stay on it and report anything new we hear. Quote

With Epple graduating, that's two starters on the OL that need replacing. Hopefully some of the younger guys can step up. Quote

puddin tane Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 i think any of our linemen making any level of all conference was a joke we couldnt run and went thru 4 quarterbacks cuz they got pounded like a red headed step-child Quote
