coachacola Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Another guy with tons of coaching experience: Sources tell us Ray Woodard plans to bring Carey Bailey on staff to coach the defensive line. We like the hire. Bailey is the former head coach at Howard and has coached the defensive line for several programs including Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Louisiana Lafayette, MTSU, West Virginia, etc... Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carey_Bailey Also, if this is true, what does it mean for Will Richard, the current defensive line coach? Quote
Mike Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 nice find coach. This likely means the rumor about a total of 5 new coaches on staff were true with Richard being the latest to go. Quote
coachacola Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 I wonder what Lamar will be paying these new coaches. These are former NFL and FBS assistant coaches Woodard is hiring. Since they are adding another assistant to the staff, the coaching budget must be at least $100K more than last year. Quote

Coach, I was very skeptical when you said LU would probably get new position coaches this offseason. I agreed it needed to be done, but it seemed like we were trying to fund football on the cheap (at least the DII scheduling made it seem that way) But you were right. Something just occurred to me. Is it possible that the reason we're seeing these upgrades and additional coaching positions is due to the increased money we will be making due to the FBS games? I thought maybe LU had scheduled the FBS games just to finance the program, but maybe they didn't spend that money before it was in hand. Meaning all this FBS money we will be getting could really upgrade our program. Keep up the research, you've been finding all these new coaches before anyone else. Quote

I do not think these guys would work for $65,000 dollars a year. Probably all these coaches were making alot more than that in there previous coaching position. Quote
coachacola Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 FootballScoop.com is a great site for this info. A few days ago they posted the salaries for the coaching staff of Florida Atlantic from the Sun Belt: FAU: Salaries...Carl Pelini ($450,000), Brian Wright (OC / QBs - $139,000), Luke Meadows (OL - $90,000), Jeff Sims (WRs - $83,500), Kerry Dixon (RBs - $60,000), Jared Allen (TEs - $60,000), Brett Diersen (DL / STs - $83,500), Jovan Dewitt (LBs - $70,000), Ross Watson (DBs $70,000). Marvin Sanders (DC) was slated to make $144,000; but he's in L.A. now. Overall, the pay for the assistants is up about 50% over what last year's staff received. Lamar is currently paying most of the assistant coaches around $60K a year, which isn't that much lower than FAU which is a FBS school. I'm guessing some of these new hires will be making more than $60K. Wonder if Woodard will be receiving a raise? Since the honeymoon period is over for Lamar football (and Woodard too), he knows it's time to start winning. On a side note, didn't Woodard play a big part in getting that $2 million donation from the Dauphin family? Maybe some of that money is helping pay for this staff upgrade. Quote
Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 When will all the coaching changes be made official? I am encouraged by what is being said of the new coaches coming in. Would really like to see the football and basketball programs take off to the next level. Would be a great thing for LU!!! Quote
