Guest CardAmbassador
Ok fellas let's keep this a football conversation Well on a football note I bet practices are canceled tomorrow. They've already canceled tomorrow's baseball game. (might have been a blessing so we can focus on the formidable Rice)
Guest Hookem14
Ok fellas let's keep this a football conversation I was discussing football and gave an opinion that I’m fairly certain most people that know even a little about football would agree with and got called out for it. To me that is just amazing. I would be shocked if most of the regular contributors to this site thought Oden did anything other than a very poor job on the O-line. I am friends with a former O-lineman that played for Lamar back in the mid 80’s and he told me numerous times that he thought Oden was by far the WEAKEST member of an already poor O-line. But obviously negative comments, truthful or not, are not tolerated. It just gets you ridiculed.

However, if you have a strong opinion about the accolades a player gets and calls them a joke, you can imagine someone will refute. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with your statement about Oden. I'm just saying what you can expect on a message board, in person, etc. Someone who posts a very blunt statement about a player on a team that everyone here supports isn't going to get a bunch of "way to go" and "gold star" replies. Your avatar name doesn't help. Again, I don't have a problem with you at all. I'm just telling you what I think correlates.

It had absolutely nothing to do with disagreeing at all, that’s part of life I totally understand. That’s what makes the world go round. It had everything to do with being called out for an opinion and then saying, “Honestly, I don't care”. If you don’t care, why even get started. I find it hard to believe most people would appreciate that at all.

Guest eagle eye
Okay. Hookem14 doesn't like Oden. The eyeball test is something a lot of people go by because that's all there is. You don't need film or be in the media, God knows the media is never wrong (sic), or a coach. Maybe Hookem14 WAS a coach at one time, we don't know that. The bottom line is he didn't think Oden deserved recognition in the form of 2nd team All Conference or whatever it was and it was because of the old eyeball test AND the opinion of an alumni who played O-line. Does that make Hookem14 right? Not necessarily but he deserves the right to speak his mind. Now, Hookem14, if someone disagrees with you please don't take it personally. If you expect everyone to agree with you, you have to say something like the sky is blue or the grass is green but even then you're going to find someone who will say the sky is grey and the grass is brown. That's just the way it is. You want some football talk? Here's something. Lamar just hired a new coach. The guy is from the Ray Alborn regime that effectively killed Lamar football. I don't want to hold a grudge or anything but anyone associated with the Ray Alborn coaching staff is bad news to me. I can't believe our head coach hired this guy. I can't believe our head coach hired this guy. I think George Cortez did well. He just left the Buffalo Bills QB coaching job for a CFL head coaching job. And I know Jeff Conway is doing well as a Sam Houston STate assistant head coach. I liked Kueck from a personal standpoint as far as he was my recruiting coach but .... :) I was on the other side of the ball so I didn't have to dodge flying film projectors in meetings. Guest bigred360
On paper Oden should have been all world, but he was terrible. I watched him a lot and on most plays he was getting ABUSED be someone "on paper" that had no business even being lined up accross from him. That just helps prove that "on paper" means next to nothing. I think he got 2nd team all conference if I remember right, but that was a joke, he only got that because of his name and size. TERRIBLE. Really, you are a member of the media, an SID or coach in the SLC? I mean it sounds like you have game film on the guy. Honestly, I don't care as he is probably gone as I've heard there were locker room issues with last years team. If he isn't a good locker-room guy and is suspended we don't need him or anyone else in thet boat. However, the offensive line works as a unit and if 3 guys are getting beat the whole line looks bad. It's and team game but each player has to win his individual battles. I sincerely apologize for having an opinion on this site, I thought that was encouraged, I guess I was wrong. But if you “Honestly” don’t care, why was it necessary to call me out? Careful about giving an honest opinion on these boards. It gets you banned. Really, please share with us who has been banned from BRI.

Guest bigred360
If only football was played on paper! Nice post as that is very accurate but so is potential. You have to give a kid that was a 4 star recruit coming out of high school a chance. If Coach Woodard didn't give him a fair chance at winning the QB battle in spring ball that would be stupid on his part. BTW, he is the only new QB on the roster, so Coach Woodard pretty much knows what the others can and can't do. He is NOT the only new QB on the roster. Oh, you're right, but I meant on campus for spring ball. Are you suggesting Coach Woodard is going to wait until the summer and name the true freshman from La the starter? I'm betting Matt Bergeron is redshirted.

However, I chose not to post what a coach says about the program in private. Yes, he is still a member of the Lamar coaching staff after all the changes. I wouldn't post them if they were positive either. Please, can you say one positive thing about the Lamar University football program? BTW, you can talk about a friend playing for Lamar back in the 80's but when I stated my brother was a high school football coach you said that didn't matter. I know more than a little about the game of football. Please show me where I stated we had good O or D line play last year. You can't because I never stated it. I don't care because he isn't going to be a part of this football team. However, the past is the past and there were enough "voters/coaches" who picked Oden as second team all-conference. Now, I didn't vote for the guy, men that get paid good money made that decision. What do you mean being called out for an opinion? All I asked was what qualifies you to make a judgement that Oden didn't deserve the honor of being 2nd team all-conference and he was TERRIBLE.If that is calling someone out I'm sorry buddy but I don't agree. Nothing personal!
Guest eagle eye
I am sorry if I have bad memories of the Ray Alborn era. I suppose it's wrong to condemn the whole staff. Honestly, the last time I remember the Lamar offense being any good was under Larry Kennan who left Lamar to coach in the NFL. He had a nice career in the NFL if I'm not mistaken. Alborn was a guy who seemed to be full of excuses and few answers and the most embarrassing thing was the fight he and Lamar players got into with an opposing team on the field or in the tunnel coming or going, I don't recall which, toward the end of the season. Yes, I believe the board of regents did the chopping but the dismal job done by Alborn didn't help. But, by the same token, Lamar kept trying to get coaches on the cheap and Alborn was the last straw. Basketball was king at the time and the football program was a mess. I will reserve judgement and apologize to players who played under Alborn's staff. Sometimes time is not a friend to bad memories. I really hope the Cards become the cream of the conference and a D-2 force in the years to come no matter what conference we may end up in! The Black Rose fight? good stuff! Ken Stephens started the downfall, he sucked...besides dismal results..traded K State game and good money for prarrie view, cuz it would help recruiting?..gimmee a break.....then administration killed football ....making them a 1AA independent...deciding we were gonna be a "basketball school"... -and ,yes, in my opinion..oden stunk it up

Guest bigred360
torre henry switched to DB? kid's a heck of a WR He really didn't play much if you look at the stats from last season. At 6'2, 190lbs, he'll be a big DB. I really think if you look at the DB recuits coming in, the coaching staff is trying to get bigger in the secondary.
