I suspect there will be a formal announcement of Kueck's promotion to OC soon. B)

Coach Whitten's son Tate signed with Tarleton State this Spring. This might be a reason for the mystery surrounding Coach Whitten. Perhaps he wanted to be in the North Texas area to be closer to his son.

Tate Whitten, WR, Frisco Heritage High School, 6’0”, 170 lbs.

Tate displays great ball skills and a will to complete. He is also a polished wide receiver who will be able to make an impact for the Texans in the future. Tate averaged 20 yards per catch this past season and was nominated for player of the week by the Dallas Morning News after he gathered 122 yards and a touchdown against Paris High School. Tate is the son of Texans former head coach Todd Whitten.

Possible recruiting pipeline?

To me it appears that Whitten did not leave under his own will. If he did, then there would have been no need to conceal the issue and no need to hide the fact that Kueck was being hired as the OC.

I'm sure he likes being closer to his son. But I think he was one of the few forced out.

Was anyone else forced out? I thought everyone else left on his own.

Maybe Coach Woodard didn't want to say anything until he knew for sure Whitten had landed his new coaching job. I believe I read that Whitten was applying for head coaching jobs last year around this time. It doesn't sound like he was forced out to me. Sounds like he's been trying to land another coaching job back in D-FW area.

Woodard's original OC moved on to Texas Tech before the start of the 2010 season and Whitten had just been fired by SHSU, so after he took the job I don't think he really wanted to stay at Lamar for very long. I think he wanted to get back to being a head coach, even at the high school level. He had applied for 3 or 4 coaching positions around the state so I don't think he really cared where he landed. I'm guessing Woodard didn't want it to look like Whitten was forced out so that's why he hasn't really said anything about the situation.

I don't know, I remember the Roger Hinshaw situation, and this appears somewhat similar.

EDIT: And no I don't think any other coaches were forced out, I think they left because either they were asked to or because they knew expectations were about to get alot higher after last years performance.

Good luck and best wishes to coach Whitten. I think we were all influenced (I know I was) to some degree in how we evaluated him by our SHSU friends who come and visit our board.

Ex-wife is from Arlington Heights in Fort Worth as they are a pretty good baseball school but stink in football. Good luck to Coach Whitten, he is going to need it there!
