I noticed this a few days ago when I was browsing google maps. Looks amazing doesn't it? Might make this my profile pic.

A rotated view from Google Earth:

Google Earth also has historical views of the stadium grounds dating back all the way to the 1930's! And they have a shadowing feature that allows you to see 24 hours of the stadium and how the shadows move over the stadium, pretty cool.

In the 1989 version you can tell that the old field house was closer to the field than the new one is, so they actually left more room for a bowl if that were to ever be needed.

That's a nice view. You can see how easily it will be to extend the stands up to the Montagne Center on the north end and wrap the stands around the south end. There's also room for a larger press box and/or small upper deck on both sides. I hope one day they have the demand and the money to expand the stadium out.

Bowling around the north end is easy. Bowling around the south is easier to construct, but would require a north end scoreboard.

Would bowling around add that many seats? Is adding 4K or so worth the cost??? To do much more than bowling around, they'd have to reconstruct at least 2 sides of the stadium.... possibly 3.

It does look "purdy" in the picture, though.

I think bowling the south end-zone would add far more than 4k seats. 8k+ is just an eyeball estimate when taking into account the distance from each side of the endzone, plus the wrapping effect is going to give you more seats than expected.

The scoreboard would be moved slightly higher but other than that I don't think it would be moved.

Bowling around the south end at the same height as the east & west decks could pick up close to 8k seating. I don't think they would go the same height as it would obstruct all of the Athletic Facility so they would probably extend the east & west sides as close as they can to the athletic facilitly and maybe bowl the south with a shorter end zone side so you still see part of the athletic facility. With the Montagne and the suites on the North side, they would for sure do the same thing as the south side, maybe even shorter on the north end zone side than south. The real key is whether there is room for a 5k deck on the east side. If so, you can get in exces of 30k with a real nice end zone to end zone suite deck on the west side. That expanded stadium would definatley get even CUSA consideration.

You could be right. Considering the attendance isn't officially "selling out" each game yet, I wouldn't be surprised to see LU bowl the lower half in a way to set them up to be able to do the top half.

I don't think they would put seats between the Montagne Center and the field, there's not much room there. But they could extend the stands down to the ends of the endzone which would add about 3K or so seats.

On the south end, I think the stands in front of the athletic complex would stay low enough to not obstruct the view of the offices and the scoreboard. The two ends of the athletic complex are lower with no window, as if they built it that way so the stands could go over them in the future. That would add maybe 9K more seats for a total capacity of 25K, plenty of seats for the near future.

I have no idea if any this will happen in my lifetime, but it's fun to think about it.

30,000 seat Provost Umphrey Stadium

That with 2 luxury boxes on one side and a larger press box on the other side would be the perfect stadium.

There would need to be a tunnel from the looker room.

As for the fans, I think Coach was just showing what an expanded stadium could possibly look like.

Issue #1: Stealing one of the lines from "Field of Dreams" ...

........ If you build it, they will come. :)

Now, I'm ready to see what it would look like with a second deck on each side of the stadium.

Issue #2: For the player entrance problem, we could have a player entrance tunnel. It would reduce some of the seating, but not by much.

Here's the stadium with player entrances. They are close to where they are now. The alternative is to have one big entrance behind the goal posts. I just forgot to put them in this morning.

Does Lamar need a 30K stadium while in the SLC? Probably not. But Dr. Simmons has stated in the past that they could easily expand the stadium to this size and this shows it can be done with the space they have, without having to build any upper decks.

I like this configuration because there's minimal endzone seating. This would be the perfect size in the Sun Belt conference. An enlarged pressbox with a nice facade would really make the stadium look great from the outside. I doubt we'll see this anytime soon but it's fun to dream about it.

Yeah alternate entrances are probably better, don't want to have our players lining up that close to theirs in confined space, could be bad if someone were to start trash talking.
