Mike Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 The draft will start today at 1:00 in the field house and will be broadcast live at lamarcardinals.com. Ill provide the link here when it becomes available. A couple details about the draft are: - graduate assistants Marcus Carver and Brett Ramsey will be the two head coaches picking the teams - 2 honorary coaches will be Dan Hooks and Charlie Woodard - They will only show the first 12 rounds or so and the rest of the two teams will be picked behind closed doors. - Last year Kyle Gilliam was the 1st overall selection. Stay here during the draft to discuss the picks as they come in!! Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 This will be a good way to get a handle on a depth chart. I wish it were different coaches though, I don't know how qualified each of the GA's will be to pick even teams. Quote

I wish it were different coaches though, I don't know how qualified each of the GA's will be to pick even teams. It's the same format as last year and the teams were fine. I'm sure the coaching staff is divided up and helping behind closed doors to make the picks, with the GA's the head coaches. Quote
Guest McneeseKilla Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Damn CA that's kind of a harsh comment. As much as I usually respect your opinions on here I'm gonna have to question this one. I don't think the qualification of the GAs as head coaches should really matter here this is just really all fun and game for the coaches from what I saw last year. Either way I think know matter how they choose the teams will be even. Quote

Either way I think know matter how they choose the teams will be even. It's not a criticism of the GA's at all actually. All I am saying is that who do you think has been paying more attention to the talent on the team, the GA's or the DC/OC Position coaches? For Lamar football's sake we better hope that it's the Coaches, since at the end of the day they're the ones who decide to play in real games. So it actually has nothing to do with the GA's abilities at all. Misinterpretation of what I'm saying. Quote
Mike Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 7th round... QB Ryan Mossakowski goes first to the White team, then Jeremy Johnson goes to Red Berry will split time with both teams so they get equal reps. Quote
Mike Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 first RB taken in 9th round by white team: DePauldrick Garrett....and red team gets M. Vincent then with the Red teams pick in the 9th they took Caleb Harmon. Quote
Mike Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Kyle Gilliam 1st overall pick again this year. Quote

Mike Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 Do you know where/when the spring rosters will be posted ? I'll post it here as soon as I can get the info. I wasn't prepared at the beginning of the draft but have the results from rounds 6 through 12 that I'll try to post later. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I was doing homework and forgot to check in until now. Not surprised that linemen were the first picks again this year. Since we run the 3-4 I'm sure there is a scarce amount of talent that can perform that system well. Quote
LUFAN12 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 This will be a good way to get a handle on a depth chart. I wish it were different coaches though, I don't know how qualified each of the GA's will be to pick even teams. Obviously you have never been a GA or have known one. They do just as much if not more with the players as the coachs do. They coach positions and they watch just as much film as the coachs do. So I would say they are just fine to be the head coachs of a spring game. They know what players are going to play in the fall and who can or can't play. They sit in on every staff meeting, every position meeting, every special teams meeting, defensive team meeting and offensive team meeting. These guys know who can play and who can't and who will help this team get to the next level. Quote
coachacola Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 With all the new coaches on staff this spring the GAs may know about the players than some of the new coaches. Quote

I know it's a different person. That's probably even more annoying that two people were overly sensitive about an otherwise fair statement. Quote

I haven't seen his name on the roster so I'm guessing he's a walk on. Looks like he's a 2010 graduate of Vidor. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 The first two receivers taken: Reggie Begelton Zach Sonnier Both are preferred walk-ons. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Davion Wolford made the transition to WR from DB last year. Who is Marcus Washington? Also Scotty Utterback looks huge. Quote
Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Quite a few players are not on the Enterprise list of players drafted. Can anyone elaborate? I don't see Anthony Beard but i think their are probably as many as 15-20 players not listed. Quote
Big T Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I beleive there are six or seven that are injuried. Also, if there are an odd number of players at a certain postition then the odd players are not drafted. Instead they will play for both teams. For example Mossakowski and JJ were drafted so Caleb Berry will play for both teams. Quote
