Guest mendelj Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 What does the pretty pick mean? I've never heard that terminology used for a quarterback before. Quote

I think he means that both Johnson and Moss were BCS-quality QBs with 3 or 4 stars so they are the "sexy" picks while Berry is the no-name underdog QB. Quote

Correct, if you haven't figured it out already puddin' is as cynical as they come. :) Quote
Guest mendelj Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 What makes him a no-name underdog? Does anyone know his accomplishments and honors from high school? People know Johnson's because he is from the Golden Triangle. No one really knows the other 2 QB's because they are not from around our area. Quote

High school acomplishments don't matter when you get to college, its about what they do in the present and future. Quote
Guest mendelj Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 I agree and my point exactly. I was just referring to Coachacola's reference to Moss and Johnson as BCS quality quarterbacks and what that was based on. Just curious about the comment. Quote

Both Moss and Johnson were recruited by and signed with BCS schools so that's why I said BCS-quality QBs, which makes them the "pretty pick" over Berry, who wasn't recruited by the big schools. I'm not saying they are better than Berry, just saying that's probably what Puddin Tane meant when he wrote that. Quote
Guest mendelj Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Got it. Thanks. Just trying to keep up with the newer age terminology. Guess I'm dating myself not understanding some of the present day lingo. Quote
Guest mendelj Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Didn't think anyone was making the point that anyone of them was better than the other. I agree whole heartedly that past doesn't matter, what you do in the present and future is what is relavent. Good old fashioned dedication to hard work, coachability, and game knowledge combined of course with teamwork wins you ballgames :) Quote

Guest NorthoftheBorder Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 One of the greatest examples of the "sexy" pick at QB that busted was Chris Simms at UT. Had the pedigree, looked great in the uniform and had real skills. But he didn't have the heart to be a big time college or Pro QB. But because he was the "sexy" pick he was inserted as the starter over the returning Big 12 Conference MVP, and the rest as they say is history. Nobody says that you don't have to have skills and athleticism, but raw skills by themselves in not enough. Quote
