NorthoftheBorder Posted September 15 Author Posted September 15 This is a good win for LU. Shows to me that Rossomando is building a competitive program. Quote
TexGator Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Great win! Build it in the trenches and you 100% get games where you run the ball >40 times for >200 yards. Quote
Pecker Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Wow, what a wild game. We totally dominated the first half and then didn’t do much the second half. I think we clearly were the better team but our offensive play calling was awful. Some pretty big coaching blunders and our pass blocking continues to be terrible. Quote
Pecker Posted September 15 Posted September 15 (edited) I didn’t mind the fact that we went for it on 4th and one basically at their goal line even though a field goal would have put us up 4. What I did mind was the play call. We used ZERO deception on the play. We lined up in a double tight end run formation and ran it basically like everyone was expecting us to do. I was hoping for some sort of play action with a run/pass option for Longino. We were very lucky that this screw up didn’t cost us the game. Edited September 15 by Pecker Quote
SportsGuy Posted September 15 Posted September 15 A win is a win!! What a big one tonight. Resiliency was on full display. They definitely didn’t play their best ball but still came away with the W. I am so excited to see what this team has left in store! Quote
Pecker Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Uggh, our last offensive series was another example of our horrible play calling. I was in complete shock that we didn’t really even try to get a first down. Quote
WildCard Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I said just before they went for it at the end that they would be stupid not to kick the field goal and take the lead. Then we stopped them. Maybe they didn't have confidence in a kicking game that had already kicked a pat attempt off the post and had a field goal try hit the backs of their linemen. Quote

coachacola Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I find it baffling that Weber State didn't kick a FG with 2 minutes left in the game to take the lead. If LU was up by 4 then I would see why they would have to go for it. LU went for it early in the 4th quarter so that's not understandable. Weber State must not trust their FG kicker. Why didn't LU try to get a first down? You knew that Weber State would have a great field position to end the game, but with them missing the game ending FG maybe LU knew their FG kicker wasn't any good. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Big win for LU. Defense showed up. i think we have big time offensive woes. Play calling , execution. I dunno, but one of the worst non hbcu, fcs teams -murray st-hung 59 on mvsu. peck em Quote

Followed by poor pass blocking and poor execution (either dropped passes, inaccurate passes, or penalties). The good thing is we got a really big win and we have a LOT of room for improvement. Quote
Pecker Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Not understandable? Or did you mean understandable? Idk, I suppose it’s possible that their kicker isn’t very good. Just seems to me, in that situation, we played “not to lose” rather than playing to win. (But, it’s easy to second guess…and we did win.) Quote
Pecker Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I also don’t get what the issue has been with Coleman. After last year (highest completion % in the SLC), I was expecting him to have a great year. He has a ton of talent and is clearly a competitor. Hopefully he’s healthy and will get it together the rest of the season. Quote

Was Coleman taken out because of injury or because of poor play? He did throw that interception so maybe he has a nagging injury that their not talking about. Which I get, making excuses is not a good look. Quote
Pecker Posted September 18 Posted September 18 From watching the game, my guess is 99% because of injury. Quote
