24-25 MBB at Texas A&M Nov 11th

Men take on A&M at 7 PM this evening.  Will be interesting to see how the new scorers do against tough competition.

Early action Lamar playing solid defense and are up 3-0.  Holifield looks impressive as he jumped for the opening tip, has a steal and has brought the ball up the court at least one time.  A big man that is coordinated and can handle the ball.

A&M woke up shortly after the previous post and started hitting three-pointers.  10 of 17 in the first half compared to one of eight for Lamar.  Rebounding and field goal percentage the big difference as A&M is up 50-29 at the half.

Lamar falls by twenty-six, 97-71.  Marmolejos scores 23, followed by 15 from Jackson and 13 from Holifield. Lamar doesn't have the player that can consistently drive and score.  A&M had a distinct size advantage at the guards.  As bad as this score was, I think this is a better team than last year overall, but this team could use a Terry Anderson type of player.  Gambrell hasn't made it into a game yet.  Is he hurt or something else?

Just awful coaching again.  Full court pressing against a team with better players/athletes than you is pure stupidity.  And once again, constantly leaving them with wide open 3 pointers.  Then there’s our no scheme offense.  Just terrible.  Do we have ANY clue how to feed the ball into the post??  Do we EVER set off the ball screens to try to free players up?  Did we run any plays to get someone open for a jumper other than a semi pick and roll type play (that we do EVERY DAMN TIME)???!!!!

A&M is good but they aren’t 30 points better than us based on athletes - eye test.  But their coaching is certainly 30+ points better than us.

I have to disagree. In person, we didn’t pass the eye test. Our forwards were skinnier than theirs and our whole team is slower. It didn’t help that we couldn’t sink a shot to save our lives.

Apparently we watched 2 different games.  They had one guy who was noticeably bigger, but other than that…and he wasn’t very skilled offensively.  We were 6’ 10, 6’ 10, 6’6, 6’3, and 6’0.  Granted, Holifield is very skinny but he’s clearly got talent.  And at times we replaced the 6’3” with a 6’5” or 6’6”.  And, for the most part, these aren’t slow/slug footed players we were putting in.  Our scheme vs A&M was like trying to force a square peg into a round hole.  You leave our players wide open like we left theirs, we would have been the ones making a bunch of 3’s.  We do NOT play sound defense.  Too much trapping, too much pressing gets players out of position to be able to play decent defense.

(And I said they aren’t 30 points better…I didn’t say they weren’t better)

Why is Gambrell not playing? Was excited to see what he can do this year.
