BRI Staff Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 BEAUMONT - Lamar University has filled out its football coaching staff with the additions of Carey Bailey and Kevin Barbay, announced head coach Ray Woodard on Wednesday. Barbay, a former quarterback at Nederland High School, returns to the area to coach wide receivers for Lamar. Barbay played for Larry Neumann at Nederland before going on to play for Doug Williams at Grambling State University. Barbay's first full-time coaching job came at Texas A&M-Commerce (2007-08) where he spent two seasons as the quarterbacks/wide receivers coach before moving on to North Texas as the tight ends coach for a season (2009). He most recently spent two seasons as the athletic director and head coach at Warren High School. LINK: http://www.lamarcardinals.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/050212aaa.html Quote
lu cards Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 really like what woodard has done with the coaching staff.i give him an A+ for putting a solid recruiting class together and now getting some good coaching.now all we have do is win some games. Quote
coachacola Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 No more HS-only coaches on the staff, which is a good thing. From what I've heard him say and what he's done, he recognized the need to upgrade the coaching staff. We'll see next fall if all these changes pay off. Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I would agree, coach gets a gets a good grade during this offseason. I was very disappointed in the way we didn't compete in some of our games. I can take the 20 point losses, but not even competing vs. some schools from our own conference was hard to watch. I think Woodard has bought himself some goodwill with these moves. If the team can just look competitive this year he will get praise, if things continue down the same path it won't matter who he brings in. Quote
Guest LU4LIFE Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I agree with all you guys Coach Woodard did a good job all around this off season with the coaching changes and the recruiting class. A head coach is only has good is as the coaches he has around him and I really like the ones he has around him right now, but only time will tell how it all works out. Quote
