coachacola
From the Beaumont Enterprise: Woodard now has a staff of eight assistant coaches with salaries that total $510,424, according to figures obtained by The Enterprise through a Texas Public Information Act request. That's a 23-percent increase from the two losing seasons that followed the return of the football program after a two-decade hiatus. Simmons granted permission for the increase because of the "several" donations sent to the school athletic department, some of which he put toward coach salaries, he said. More: Lamar's $500,000-plus assistant salaries puts the Cardinals close to several FBS schools in the Sun Belt and Western Athletic conferences. But Simmons, who once talked about possibly moving Lamar football to the FBS level, said the salary increase should not be taken as a sign of a possible move to an new conference. "As funds come in," Woodard said, "we try to use it in ways that will benefit the program." And, it seems, raise expectations. Guest NorthoftheBorder
Either Simmons has no interest at this time to move FBS or he is playing it very close to his vest. I'm thinking that with Tubbs out of the picture, it is the former.
Guest bigred360
I think this was pretty obvious with the coaches Lamar/Coach Woodard brought in. Agree with NOTB, I don't think Dr. Simmons is ready to make that move to a FBS conference at this time.
Guest CardAmbassador
Whatever his conference feelings are it is good that he is committed to having quality coaches on this staff, they sure seem to be much more experienced. I was wondering how we managed to get such upgrades, its quite clear now that we're paying a little more than we were before.
